Title: Yeast starter infected?

Made this yesterday evening. Been sloshing it around a good bit and let it sit for about half an hour and noticed the white on the surface. Smells ok. Its washed WLP005 in about 500ml of wort

Yeah - I've seen this before on a few white labs yeast starters of mine. Just gave the starter bottle I was using a good shake to mix it all up and it disappeared. Used it in my brew and no problems. Don't know why it happened or what it was - But all was good.

Hard to tell. Looks a bit stagnant. I'd err on side of caution with a starter. Rather waste 500ml of starter than a 20L batch of beer. Can you make another starter?

I got something like that on top of a conditioning beer once. It turned out it was yeast attached to C02 bubbles.

It started to look better about an hour later. Its now topped up with another 500ml of wort ;D
