Title: Boiler, whats best?
Post by: Damo on May 05, 2013, 09:50:13 AM
Hey all

Im half way through building my brewery

What do people think is best for a boiler, Stainless perforated steel as a false bottom or a copper manifold?

Im kind of leaning towards nice n'shiney. any reasons why copper would be better?

Thanks

For a mash tun probably a SS false bottom as its easier clean. A copper manifold is a third of the price & does an awesome job.

For a boiler id just use a bazooka tube or a home made hop strainer.

Thanks hop bomb

I probably should have said that I already have the stainless.

Ive fitted it into my mashtun and I think it looks great, I have access to free copper if I need to build a manifold.

I suppose a bazooka screen would have been an option but I've read mixed reviews.  That's partly my problem, I've read so much info that ive kinda confused myself ::)

Bazooka does a shit job as a mash tun manifold but its a great BK filter. I use leaf hops so between the hop bed as a filter & the bazooka there isnt much getting into the fermentor. It could be a different story for hop pellets but you could tie a hop bag around the bazooka for extra fine filtering.
