Title: August trip to Lisburn and Hilden
Post by: admin on May 05, 2013, 05:49:28 PM
Folks, just trying to gauge interest in a day trip on the 24th of August trip to Lisburn for a cider making lesson in the late morning, followed by the beer festival in the afternoon at Hilden. It'd be an opportunity for us to hook up with the Belfast homebrewers too.

Itinerary would be
09:30 Depart Dublin city centre
11.15 Arrive in Lisburn for around 11:15am.
13.00 Lunch (BYO!)
14.00 Off to Hilden
23.00 Depart
12.45 Arrive back Dublin city centre
01.00 Nitelink :)

At very most the bus should cost no more than €30 pp return. The more we can get the cheaper it would be.

Also, these times are subject to change if they don't suit enough people.

Anyway, register your interest below:

wud it be an idea to stay over and share cars save the busfare and the hasssel of commutin after a feed of beer?

The difference between sharin cars with a triple room in travelodge would probably balance out compared to everyone payin 30 quid for a bus?

Might b interested but I's stay overnight

Would I be able to bring the missus along on this (yes, she drinks beer)? It's just that we met for the first time at the Hilden Beer Festival twenty eight years ago (and yes, they were running them then).  :-*

Shouted out to Mrs Ciderhead, fancy going to Lisburn to a beer festival, "great yeah I can top up the the tan how much are the flights?"
Huh, not not Lisbon! Lisburn.... "I'll think about it".
Then I pointed out about the fact the two are practically identical in culture, shopping and sweltering summer temperatures etc etc.
Help me out here on the sell chaps?

My 7 seater has no toilets but is able to stop at the finest Irish Oak tree's. You can of course use Elm but I think Oak is best. :P Not available to drive that weekend cause I might be pissed with the rest of you. ;) ;D

I've been on to a couple of mini bus hire companies. Just waiting on figures back.

Fair play.

Just to get the costs rolling a taxi fare is €240 one way. So 6 passengers in a 7 seater is €40 up and €40 return. :)

Is there not a cabby with a 14 SEATER transit happy to make a  few hundred + diesel for his day and 14 of us go in it... a transit wil do the same  MPG near enough as 2.5 litre 7 seater, and I wouldnt like to be SQUASHED in a 7 seater for 2 or more hours, given that the 2 seats in the back arev made for Japanese kids ;D  ....all seems very expensive at 80 quid...I can get to anywhere in UK from Dublin for 80 quid on stena sail and rail....
very surprised its so difficult and expensiive to get to LISBURN.

After much frustration with mini bus companies I've asked Rossa to take over on this.

Why were they taking the piss or not as it were?
Do we have a list somewhere as to who is going?

For those sort of prices I have two options:

Me and Mrs Will: Drive up, Hotel, drive back:  3 seats spare in car

No Mrs Will:  Drive up and back in the day with as many will fit in the Scenic!

Will She or won't she?? TBD!!

Any news on the minibus yet? It's just that I'm off on holidays next week, and won't return (or be in touch with the internet) until Friday 23rd; so I'd like to know asap if it's not going ahead, then I can book a B&B for me and the missus.

Nothing my end. Heading away soon and won't really be around much until the big event. Hoping I'll make it up still.

So I take it there's no minibus then. Is it possible with Aircoach or some other bus?

You could do it by bus to Sprucefield and then taxis. I put some details on the Belfast forum (http://nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,3203.msg38800.html#msg38800)
