Hey there
I just got a new regulator for my co2 bottle and it doesnt seem to fit. The threads look the same but it only goes on about half a turn. I tried gently turning it with a spanner but i dont want to force it.
Can anyone tell from these pics if they ate the same thread?
If not is there a fitting to go between them?
Sorry the pics are so big.
Hi Cathal
Without looking at them in person its impossible to say.
However, The big silver nut on the end of the reg should be free floating. The copper inner should mate with the internal of your co2 cylinder, you should be able to tighten up the big silver nut to create a seal between the surfaces with the pink rubber washer.
hope this helps
Hi Cathal, I can't get it out of my head all evening. I've checked two of my co2 cylinders and many different regulators Micromatic, Hiwi, Cornelius and the one you have Odl. They've all the same threads. Don't know what to say, I keep thinking co2 cylinder seems to have unusual fitting..
I tried Alexs regs on both my cylinders no issues, where did you get your tank Cathal, they look like monster threads?
Did you try to swap regulators with your friend?
Its difficult to tell, but the valve on the cylinder looks quite rough.
Has this been abrased? Run your finger nail around the thread and see if its good.
Go to a mates, try your reg on his cylinder and vice versa is the only way to really know
I think Johns right it looks like its been dropped on its side and the first thread is fooked.
There seems to be a slight nick at the very beginning of the irst thread. Ive tried straghtening this with a fine blade an im getting a couple more turns out of it but its not free flowing. Im afraid of shearing the thread if i force it any more.
dony force it, you will bugger your reg valve.
valves for tanks aren't cheap, 28-30, where did you get that tank?
Might be as best to start from scratch of have valve on tank replaced :(
The thing is i got the tank filled in D&D no problem so im wondeting jow they were able to connect to it.
Did you run your nail around the thread?
Does the first course feel pinched?
The Valve looks like brass.
Brass=butter, just don't use it on toast.
Get a metal file or junior hacksaw.
Start 2 threads in from damaged area, and with NO pressure, get a feel for the thread.
Move towards the damaged thread and tease the thread out.
In truth you could remove the first thread or half thread with a file.

Yea i did exactly that. All the thread feels fine appart from that slight nick at the very beginning of the thread. I might get a wire brush to clean the thread completley (even though it looks ok) and use some WD40 to lube it.
What do ye think?
The nick might be enough to knock the thread off.
Gently does it.
this is tense and better than Eastenders

You did say Brew? BOOM!!
Finally after hours of careful attention to detail im up and running. I measured the threads on both the cylinder and regulator and they match. I got some needle files from work and carefully filed back the first thread past the nick, cleaned it off with WD4O and tried the regulator again.
The first turn felt a bit gratey but the it seemed to turn well. Second turn ok third turn ok.....
Untill.......
She gripped again. The 3rd and 4th thread were black with corrosion so out with the needle file again.
I eventually got there and the regulator is now connected to the cylinder and the keg.
I think I earned this pint.

Well Done
keep an eye on your gas level, a few squirts of star san or like the tyre guys, fairy liquid also tells me if my gas is leaking
Just to let remind everyone southside AJ edge in bray will refill your tank irrespective of whether its 2 or 5kgs for 10 euro :o
Also brand new valve is 28 euro, so when you ask for Gary and if you quote NHC he will sell you a full 2 or 5kg tank for 40 euro.
He says the tanks are reconditioned but they looked very shiny red to me.
He gets his gas in from a supplier in from the North who also apparently sell to Bulmers?
Good man Cathal, looking sweet!
Well done! This proofs that God exists and wants us to brew..
