I'm in North County Dublin and have been doing some cider, wine and beerkit brewing for the last 2 or three years. I'm at the stage where I should probably be making the plunge to extract brewing. This looks like the perfect place to find out more!

It's a bit late for today and for a change we won't have an extract batch! But the capital brewers meet up once a month to brew, on the second Sunday of the month!
Also there is a north county brewers club who meet for home brew tasting in the old borough in swords. Where you will normally find double medal winner from the cider category will d!

Hi and welcome to the site. For me, extract brewing was a massive step closer to my goal of making something resembling a commercial beer. Here's my top tips for you:
1. Don't try anything too wacky on your first attempt. Go for a tried and trusted, mid-gravity recipe. I'd recommend any of Jamil Zainasheff's recipes. Just google them.
2. You'll get better results with dried malt extract, than liquid.
3. Invest in a wort chiller. It'll save a lot of faffing around on brew day and ensure you pitch your yeast at an appropriate temperature.
4. If you're doing a partial (concentrated) boil, add a portion of your malt extract later in the boil, just to sanitise it. Just google 'late extract method' or 'texas two step'.
