We've had to remove tapatalk from the site as it was causing too many problems. It was interfering with the pm system and causing pages to redirect incorrectly which was holding up the roll out of paid subscriptions. The main issue is that the available version is not fully compatible with the version of SMF we are running. We will contact Tapatalk to see what help they can give or find out when an updated version will be released. Until then it's back to the browser I'm afraid.
Cant you just disable PM's or somethin? Even enable browsing at the very least, the site is unusable in the browser on a smart phone compared to Tapatalk.
Tapatalk just kicked me out in the last few minutes, mid-post. Shit shit shit!!!!!!!
It's a real pain in the h0le using the site on my phone, probably my fat fingers or something but on more than 1 occasion I've nearly reported posts to the moderators by accident
bloody hell thats a pisser I just spent 7€ on apps, I was a sceptic to start now I'm a tapatalk groupie.
There must be something we can do as I can't user safari to browse the site its a pita.
Using Dolphin browser on my phone on this site is grand. Just double tap the screen and it automatically zooms in to size
That's a shame I find tapatalk really does make browsing the sit so much handier. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

I use chrome on my phone and the site still isn't right out ready to navigate. Tapatalk is extremely handy when in on the go and to have all my forums only a click away was perfect. I'd see myself visiting less when using the browser on my phone as it is as pain in the hoop.
Tested with Chrome, Dolphin & some built in web browser.
No comparison with TT.
Quote from: Tube on May 14, 2013, 08:36:04 AM
I use Opera Mobile. while not as convenient as TT it's still well usable.
Would prefer to use TT, specially that using it already for other sites.
Also it's annoying enough even from the pc when have to type posts or PM's again because of session timeouts :/
I was sceptical about TT but having used it find it useful but imperfect.
Quote from: Tube on May 14, 2013, 09:18:47 AM
I don't use TT for any other site, but if you're having session time-outs that's a different story and needs to be looked at.
Don't have those problems with TT. Way to often when using it from PC and regular browser.
That happening even after 'Always stay logged in' option was selected.
::)
:(
I just bought Tapatalk 3 days ago! Great timing on my part, or what??
I hope the admins are able to resolve the incompatibility, as others have already said, the forum is a PITA to use in a browser. That said, I've been surprised at Tapatalk's design, which doesn't seem very intuitive to me.
Quote from: Tube on May 14, 2013, 10:14:56 AM
That's a separate issue. Will you start a thread on it and see are any/many having the same problem.
What's the best place to post it [General D]?
Can't see any tech/feedback section.
Nah.. Not impressed with any of the alternatives.. Just as I was catching up with all posts.. There is just no comparison to TT for keeping up to date on what's going on !
Even this post reply verification is a PITA..
I'm also a pretty dissapointed that Taptalk is gone, as I use it for a lot for other forums, and prefer not to change my browser just to suit this site. I found it more useful for uploading pictures, as it meant that I did not have to resize them, which is a lot of bother to me. It will definitely mean that I will post less often. Even when accessing the site via desktop, I still go directly to the forum page, so often do miss news on the main page, as currently I have them as two seperate links. Is there any link to the main page via the forum? If not, is that something that can be looked into, and I might visit the main page more often.
I definitely don't think Tapatalk should be completely written off if possible, as traffic/content will definitely suffer as a result.
Quote from: Tube on May 14, 2013, 10:26:50 AMMy major gripe with TT is that people never get to see the rest of the site when using it.
To be honest, my Bookmark link for the NHC site is the forum index page itself. I only occasionally, click on the link to go back into the main page to see the blog entries. I'd imagine most people aren't always going through the site index.htm to get through to the forum?

Thanks for that. Would it also be possible for there to be a post on the forum when something is updated on the main page?
For me, following nhbc on twitter let's me know when there are new stories on the homepage..
Is the plan to bring TT back at some point? I understand the immediate issue regarding rollout of membership takes priority but I'm not clear whether its been completely dropped and it would be a major PITA if it can't be accommodated.
Some of the solutions are...
Change to another forum.
Wait for a compatible version.
Try the current one again in case the last install was ballsed up.
Anything else?

I was happy to pay for the App to get both Beoir and the NHC forums in the one app, fairly disappointed that it was disabled as it worked perfectly in my case.

Did you actually use tapatalk other than testing?
I was using it between 1 and 2 hours a day on my bus into work/home and any times in between so I really really miss it. I take it you drive into work and use a PC/laptop at other times and have no use for it. This is the only explanation I can find for what seems to be your disinterest in addressing the multiple requests for the app.

I never tested it, but I jumped on and started using it.
I'm not sure where you get disinterest from my post, it loosely translates into +1
I am on here a lot more than I should be on 2 laptops, an Android tablet and phone.
As Tube pointed out, we are not the ones doing the sweating making these things happen.
That honor goes to Metatron and JimmyM who have devoted an inordinate amount of time making all the recent changes happen. Tapatalk was rolled back because there were issues that affected some users.
The 2 amigos jumped in again and ploughed in more of their time to troubleshoot and attempt various fixes.
Tapatalk is a tool that everyone seems to appreciate and now miss. Once time and circumstance permits I think we will see it's return.
This is obviously generating a lot of frustration but I think it might help us oikes if one of you IT bods posted an update every couple of weeks as to how the situation can be resolved, you never know one of us mere mortals may be able to offer some input, from what I understand tapatalk was corrupting the pm's and forum, which is obviously not great.
My money for the app is not wasted as I am using it for other forums but I should be on here :(
Turncoat :o
We've all had lots on and TBH I was leaving the lads at it seeing as they set it up.
I'll re-read the tech threads I it to see if we can formulate a plan going forward.
Can you not just sack Metatron and JimmyM or dock their wages or something?
We could start charging for the work we do. Membership will now cost €200 per year. :P
is it a question of money, would an IT consultant resolve the issue?
The good news is that membership was to be €10 for the remainder of 2013.
The bad news is that the IT guys are being transferred to Mumbai ;)
I have the biggest pain in my hoop using chrome on my phone with the new forum. When posting the cursor will not go where you want it in the text editing box.
it possible to get a fix for tt after membership is up and running?
I never realised how big my fingers were, I can hit three buttons all at the same time.
Btw. which version of TT pluging were we using? 3.1.0 or 3.6.0?
Any update on TT?
We are going to take another stab at it, but it will mean digging into the code to make it work correctly. It will only return when we are sure that it won't impact on the web users, who are the majority. The problems before may have seemed trivial but we want a site that works well for everyone. We will keep you all updated as we make progress. BTW, if there are any more PHP coders in our ranks that want to volunteer some of their time, let us know. Any extra help is appreciated.
Thankyou thankyou thankyou for looking at it

Yeah I just downloaded TT community so TT4 will be along soon I believe. That might do it instead of wading through the code and causing yourselves mini strokes.
FYI
I intend to install tapatalk on a test machine this week and work through the problems. Most of which i have worked through before.
We then need to package up the code changes in such a way that they can be neatly pulled out when we go to up-grade the forum in the future. This has to happen before it can be installed on the live system.

Me too!
Me too do any of our IT heads have a clue as to what the issue is, and how, what or who we can pay to solve it?
Of all the achievements NHC have made and hurdles we have overcome, can't believe we are getting stumped by this one :(
Sigh :( just got another update from TT on Iphone :'(
I guess I'll just have to use it for my other fora instead :P
Was just wondering about Tapatalk again this weekend. Don't want to be a pain in the ass about this but do we know when we're likely to be able to use it again?
Maybe it would be worth dropping back on versions SMF? Saying all this without considering effort. Purely a question about whether the benefits of this unsupported version offers members more benefit than a version that TT could be used?
@Metatron, what do you think about matching the Forum version to TT?
JimmyM is off-net at the mo and Il TUbo is taking a back seat in Engineering.
I wouldn't mind biting off a piece of this but have no idea where to start nor have I the keys to the kingdom.
and on a horizon, a vision, a vision of sense I'm about to drop a grand or organise a group buy ;)
If you want to take a crack at it go for it. Generally though, SMF produce a set of scripts to upgrade to a new version. I doubt there are downgrade scripts, particularly to a beta version, which is what TT supports. You would have to check if our current dB is compatible with the old version and if not, write a set of migration scripts. Then downgrade the software and reapply the mods. Then test the site rigorously. When all of that is done, you would then install TT and test everything again and apply any fixes required. Finally you would start again on the live site, as you would of course tried all of that on a copy of the VM before trying any of it on the live site. Then you would support any fixes required going forward for problems that are introduced but were not caught in your testing. Simples.
Alternatively someone could ask TT when they are likely to support our version of SMF.
Remember that TT is very easy to install, but very difficult to remove. It took me two or three DAYS to fix it last time. Hence the policy that if you break it, you fix it.
Has there been communication with TT to find this out?
We're not the first to come across this.
BTW if you are considering organising a GB to pay a consultant to do the set up and install, make sure it covers the time required to do any fixes or if necessary remove it again.
If you are looking for the club to pay for it, its not my call, but I won't be backing it. There only seems to be about ten or twelve people here asking for it.
If you want my recommendation, buy a bigger phone, or smaller fingers. I'm constantly on the site on both my phones and have never had an issue. It would also be cheaper than a GB...
Hardly post anymore, due to lack of Tapatalk, and think more than 10 or 12 people would benefit. I don't think bigger phone or smaller fingers is a particularly helpful suggestion. tapatalk works great on other sites.

I haven't been chasing it. I don't use it, don't want it, and due to the amount of time it took to fix, don't care if I never see or hear of it again. I did however take a look at their site earlier, just to see if anyone else here has posted the question there, instead of constantly updating this thread (ahem). Unfortunately their support site was down. Not a very promising sign.
I could recommend several books on php and mysql then. Anyone who wants to take over in admin I'd be more than happy to hand over the reins.
There might only be 10 or 12 asking for it but we all want it and the issue is not going away and the only real one where we have stumbled on on the NHC takeover of the world.
I hear what you are saying in terms of workload and the potential to screw it up and so we understand the issue correctly
TT have plugins for Simple Machines Forum 2.0 RC5/Final just launched but we are are on SMF 3 or 4?
Perhaps is it time to engage with TT? We can't be the only current SMF forum looking for this?
How can we help you Metattron instead of rubbing you up the wrong way?
and so when they say stable its more wishful thinking than actual reality?
I see their support site is still down, I'll keep trying :(

Guys,
Just an update on Tapatalk - members may not realise the full history here.
To install an update SMF a number of scripts are run against it. Its quite invasive and hard to reverse.
The Tapatalk update was put to the engineering department and it run against a Virtual Machine. It seems to work ok.
It was activated in the live environment and it was noticed after a while that PM (Personal Messages) stopped working, also I believe some people accounts were a little messed up.
After a lot of work - the forum could not be stabilised.
Certain people then worked their socks off to remove tapatalk to stabilise the forum.
SMF and Tapatalk arent natural partners - Tapatalk only supports much older versions of SMF.
Long story short - we can move to phpBB - which is virtually impossible - which is tapatalks natural partner
or we have to wait for a version of tapatalk that supports our version of SMF
We cant 'hack' our forum to work with Tapatalk - it will become unstable and all future updates to SMF will be a major ball-ache as we are running in 'non-standard' mode.
So dont be giving the engineering team a headache - they worked bloody hard trying to get it working - and it didnt work out.
Once a version arrives that supports our platform - we can try that on the Virtual Machine
Until then we are on hold with Tapatalk -
Thanks for the clarification at least now I know
Quote from: Partridge9 on July 31, 2013, 11:53:23 AMOnce a version arrives that supports our platform
Tapatalk surely have a development roadmap and should be able to tell us when they expect to release a compatible version of their software? Anyone on the engineering team know?
I don't care about tapatalk being installed to be honest, would it be possible to have a more phone friendly "skin" for the site, so that it displayed better? That saves people the expense of an app (for the user) that they might not otherwise use and also solves the problem for everyone... not just those who love tapatalk!
Quote from: Padraic on July 31, 2013, 01:29:43 PM

It's not that I love TT, but I'm using it with other forums, so would be nice to use it with NHC as well.
I love tapatalk, it allows me to quickly read through in a font without glasses! and post pics directly from the phone in the middle of a post
I get different sized text with chrome on the phone.
Tapatalk is suppMaybe we soulorted up to Simple Machines Forum
2.0 RC5/Final
We are on 2.0.4
It's a bit late now but maybe we should have stayed at 2.0
I think rolling back to 2.0.0 is a serious ball-ache -
but just need to buy Paul a pint and have a chat in a better environs !
Forums are a disaster in some ways.
So for a site with about 30% IT experts it is amazing that no-one can even suggest an alternative to T@T
Why is it so good? What does it do that a smart phone OS cannot do?
Have asked Qn b4 but no answers!
FFS: We should be able to develop our own in about 3 weeks (given the level of IT experience - Uhh like we have 1000 man years of IT experience)
Yes we can brew some great eers but can we spec. a new killer Ap?
Think what that would do to the NHC coffers!
Guys this is causing a heart ache
We may have an alternative - but need to do more work
To ensure its viable
Just like to say tis great sitting here reading the nhbc forum on tapatalk.. I now feel part of the community again. Thanks to all involved..

What's with the camera on the One? It's only 4 megapixel?
but none the less surprisingly good, they have some marketing gag going where they call them err ultrapixels, you only notice a quality degradation when you zoom. Low light photos are amazing and the burst shots are great.
In any case the ultrapixel is an enhanced megapixel of some description,
