Title: Hops and Grains
Post by: sub82 on May 15, 2013, 07:51:39 AM
What sort of hops and grains would you like to see available in a brewshop?

Geterbrewed are interested in starting to supply these and would like to get a bit of feedback as to what they should stock.

We'd probably order mostly crystal and munich malt, and magnum and cascade hops.

I'd be more interested in the storage than what they actually stock- are the hops, grains and yeast stored and kept well

Yes - the grains are "packaged exceptionally well" and the hops are "vacuum packed in nitrogen foil".

the group buys here will probably cover the Pale malt requirements so If ye are doing this as a club then its the speciality malts and such that they would best stock. Uncrushed as well because particularly the aroma malts are best crushed on the day of brew.

Get in a 25kg bag each of all the roasted grains, uncrushed. Stuff like roasted barley, black malt, crystal, amber etc., and just sell by the 1kg bag. Offer crushed at slightly higher price and crush to order for freshness.

+1

This is what I'd like for the grains. Also 50g bags of hops would be great (25g would be perfect but probably too much hassle). I would say stock as many different hops as you can, but personally I have enough hops to last me for a year (the winter is coming).

Hops Bare Minimum
Cascade
EKG
Fuggles
Magnum
Perle
Saaz
Centennial
Nelson Sauvin
(at least one of the hipsters. amarillo, simcoe...)

Thanks for these - lots of good pointers to pass on.

Keep 'em coming!
