Title: Commercial Induction Hob
Post by: imark on May 15, 2013, 02:55:20 PM
Bought myself a 3kW induction hob from Nisbets. They look to be heavily discounted and have free delivery. Might be of interst to anybody considering this option as a heat source.

500W-3kW with 26 power settings for €120 + VAT https://www.nisbets.ie/Buffalo-Induction-Hob/CE208/ProductDetail.raction (https://www.nisbets.ie/Buffalo-Induction-Hob/CE208/ProductDetail.raction)

These the jobbies that dont burn your hands?
One of the lads in work got a domestic one with touch screen controls - imported it from Poland and saved himself about 40% in the process. Not sure of the model and cant remember the price.

Yeah....from what I've read it's most efficient method so this power should be fine for my ~30L boils.

Hopefully, even heat and thankfully it looks like my kettle has a bottom that is suitable. The test appears to be if a magnet sticks....you're good to go.

The wife will be delighted to have me out of the kitchen too  ;D

From my brief googling on induction brewing, I think there is a bit of an induction scene in German homebrewing. I think the hack the temp controls on cheap hobs and control with PIDs.

I think 3kW will be plenty of power for a 30L boil. I'll try one this weekend if it arrives and post my results. Anybody else using induction?

Yip..the Aldi one is 2kW for €40 and has 10 power settings. Seems like a decent bit of kit.

Hi imark
i bought one of these about a month ago and have used it for two brews (~ 26l boil).  They're great and have no problem maintaining a boil at about 2/3 output (2kw).  The base of your kettle must be magnetic and not much bigger than 28cm in diameter.  I use a 36l SS pot with a 31.5cm base and this looks like its about the limit.  Apparently if the pot is too big the induction elements will shut off

It arrived!  ;D

I'm conducting a test to see how fast it gets 30L from tap temp (15C) to boil in a 36 L pot (uncovered). Will post my results.

Hi Y O Y
I'm using the same kettle as you I think. Do you have any insulation wrapped on the kettle by the way? It took about 50min to go from 60-100C with lid off and no insulation.
