Hi
I have a corny thats been sitting there for a year since the group buy. I was going to clean it out for the first time to transport my barrel brew. Whats the best way? Do I have to disassemble to clean the tubes inside or is filling it with steriliser sufficient?
Cheers..
The group buy cornies were and probably still are very clean inside. It should still have CO2 in it.
To clean, open up drain rinse with water, drain then smell.
The ones that contained the orange syrup had the most noticeable smell! Pleasant tho.
Visually inspect bottom for any crud. Use warm W5 or VWP (about a gallon or so). If there is crud ( and from later brewing uses there will be ) add 6 foot of 3/8" brass or stainless steel chain. Refit lid.
Now do a 10 minute upper body work out. (See HB keeps you fit not fat).
Swirl that chain every where baby!!
You can of course just roll it on the floor!
Now the important bit: Connect a gas line and a product line and force the cleaner up and out of the dip tube using a few short bursts with a pause between them.
Drain the rest of the cleaner and rinse with clean water a few times, then fit lid and repeat the dip tube purge.
It is now clean. If you want to you can now star-san it!

Would anyone be able to put together a guide for the front page? This would be a great reference article to have!
They are only there 24 hours whats the point ;) :P
That's not true, they are there forever and can be linked to!

I'll try do one tomorrow, as I have to clean out a keg for a new beer. Don't need to clean it out that much, but for the sake of journalism etc...
A thorough "I don't know where it's been" sort of clean would be great! And notes on a regular clean as well if you could!
Thanks Shane!
Pulled apart lastnight. easy enough. All soaking away nicely now. What are people using to take the star shaped nut off the Out fitting? And What size spanner is the in fitting(You've guessed it!! I didn't have the correct spanners so I got creative...:))
