Title: smartcastle Brown Ale
Post by: newToBrew on December 16, 2012, 05:03:14 PM
did this today - went quiet well I think - all in all @ 4 - 4.5 hrs

NBA Clone (http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f67/aberdeen-brown-ale-newcastle-clone-ag-36912/)

Did 5 Gallon version of the linked recipie

some slight variations - due to the hombrew shop not having the exact matching crystal also the fact that they measure it in EBC & the recipie measured in srm/ degrees lovibond required a bit of arsing about before I settled on close approximations
also rounded the base malt up to 3 KG

figure it'll be a little darker than the clone one
used magnum as the hop of choice - coz I had an open packet, so i figure my ibu's are off but im not at the stage yet were im seriously considering these calcs yet.

also used safale us 05 ( i think - that or 04 - the pink one !!)

came out at 1.040 so thats not bad I guess, I did compensate for my boil loss this time by adding some preboiled water to the kettle at the end
should be picking up my regulator form Alex soon - so gonna Keg this one !!
