I've brewed a few all grain, at the mo I have a pilsner, an oatmeal stout and a dunkelweizen conditioning and a hoppy American Pale in the fermenter, almost ready for a sackful of cascade dry hops.
Yep I'll keep an eye out for the next meet, sounds good  :)

I picked up a fridge from the local recycling centre for nothing, just asked the guy if I could take one.
Got a STC1000 temp controller for about 12 quid and a wee blow heater for 3 quid, works a treat.

The heater does come up from this guy every now and then and the price is good.
'Ideal lighting' is the seller.

I got the stc here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110V-220V-LCD-Digital-STC-1000-Temperature-Controller-Thermostat-Aquarium-Tank-/321125410774?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&var=&hash=item4ac490e7d6

I can't find the heater I got on eBay, maybe not available any more, it was a wee 100w personal space heater from China.

Excuse the complete novice question, but can you also have your fridge cooler than room temperature? Presumably it still has to function as a fridge?

Think pretty sure the STC provides the cooling ability, just increases the tolerance above that of the Fridge on it's own

andy- no, the stc is just a thermostat- will maintain a certain temp in the fridge.  if its connected to a heat source, itll maintain a heat.

chris, not sure wot ur asking- if u want cooler temps (like for a lager, a working fridge is fine)

Yeah sorry - was a bit vague there.

Redshift was saying the fridge was got from a recycling centre, I assume the fridge will need to be working in order to have a lower temperature for lagering? What if you bring one home and it is at the recycling centre because it doesn't work?

Is it possible to add a new cooling system?

you'll prob have to bypass the thermostat in the actual fridge so its set to always on. the stc will be the thermostat so you can dial in whatever temp you want. a domestic fridge will get down to around 1 or 2 given a bit of time.

Yeh it's a bit of a gamble, tho I did strike lucky first time. Not sure if u could replace the cooling system.
I didn't bypass the thermostat in the fridge I just set it at its coldest setting and I was able to lager my pilsner at 1 degree for 6 weeks.

If the Cooling system is not working, it is uneconomical to repair.
If the control is not working, this is not a problem.
