Title: Hop Plants
Post by: BrewBilly on June 04, 2013, 07:08:20 PM
Hi Folks

I am keen to grow my own hops and was wondering if anyone had some shoots that they were willing to part with, please? I thought I'd ask the forum before looking online for a hop supplier.

Thank you in advance.

They're shooting up at the moment so it might be a bad time of year.
Sniff around in Feb, grab in March more-or-less.

Where do you live?

Edit: Coming across a bit weird there. I've some softwood cutting that took (an embarrassing quantity), but they're not postable. If you're looking a road-trip to Malin Head, you could lift one on your way past!

You would be able to cut a shoot off at the root now, but you won't get anything out of it this year.

Agreed. They grow from cuttings quite well. Take a cutting, stick it in some water until it sprouts rootlets and then transfer to a pot. No cones in the first year.

Il Tubo if you have a shoot thats viable, please could have one - I do realise that this year wouldnt produce any cones, but looking forward to next year.

Cheers

Hi Tom Thanks for the offer, its a bit of a road trip at the moment, just moved house and I dont think swmbo would be to eager for me to be gone the whole day. Thank you for the offer though.

If any one else had some cuttings they dont need I would be happy to help you out.

Cheers
Andy

I need to split my two year old hop plant. I watched some youtube clips where they just chop the root ball in half with a spade. Is that really how to do it??
