The tiled floor in my place is holding a steady 18C so it's a perfect temperature control for fermenting my pale ale. Seems to be doing a great job of holding it within a degree or so. Thought I'd share in case anybody had a backlog in the fermentation fridge.
Good thinking! I wish I had a tiled floor fermentation room!
I've 3 buckets fermenting at the bottom of the stairs. Problem now is controlling swmbo. ;D
My basement is 17deg winter or summer.

You have a basement? Lucky bastid! What sort?
I was reading today that part of the Luas extension to Cabra will involve filling in basements. They've identified 25 already, but reckon lots more have been forgotten about. They tend to be constructed of red brick arches. Filling in those kind of basements should be illegal.
I built a split level house on a sloping site. Instead of filling underneath I put in a basement cost €15,000 for 1000 sq ft.

That's money very well spent!
I agree with shane re the cellar's, DCC decided to cobblestone Henrietta Street which has cellar's underneath it (the inhabitants were very rich in their day!) and they destroyed half the cellar's...

When I was filling in the deadwork in my house a few years ago the builder suggested making a basement under one of the rooms. I said WTF would I want a basement for and told him to fill it with stone. Hindsight :(
