Title: June EHM (i.e. Extraordinary Homebrew Meet)
Post by: admin on June 13, 2013, 12:23:56 AM
Just sticking this up now, as delzep isn't able to attend so we'll have to get someone else to chair.

Thurs 27th June, Lucan County, 7pm.

1. Tube. Probably Kolsch from the keg.

Quick question if thats ok?

After joining this forum I got real excited bout the Lucan County & the other day took the missus her sister & sisters other half up. One pint & we left, whats the draw to there? It doesnt have a particularly large selection of Micros. Just curious & not knocking the place.

Price for one thing.

Did you go in to the bar on the right hand side? That's the one with the better beer.
There is also a good bottle selection at very low prices.

Ah, knew there must be something  :) We went to the left, 50/50 always seems more like 80/20 to the wrong decision LOL.
Must try make a meet & check it out properly so

I did like the feel of the left side, proper no frills auld lads bar, never checked out the lounge. Will give it another shot if nothing else its an excuse for a beer or two.

There's another bar in the basement of the bar (i.e. the left) but it doesn't really get used. There is a pool table and dart board etc down there and I've kind of played with the idea of having the meets with a pool table in the room. But given that delzep isn't happy about our meandering nature already I think we'd better leave the pool table for when he isn't there!

Sounds like a great place we could use on a night without any HB with us. :)

Lads, is this the one where we are having a little homebrew competition? (http://nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,1026.0.html)

If so I have one bottle of stout I can bring along and see how it is. This is the bottle conditioned version, not sure any of you have had it.

1. Tube. Probably Kolsch from the keg.
2. ColinC Lime wheat beer kit
3. DEMPSEY still researching
4. Saruman - mooching or stout
5. imark - wit & helles bock

Right so.... Lads, we are doing the little competition this month.

€2 entry, one prize winning winner, winner takes the pot.

It's not mandatory of course but anyone bringing beer might as well enter. That means, if you have beer we have already tasted at some point, if you think it's good enough, bring it for the competition.

Now to see if I can rope someone from Capital Brewers to come along for impartial judging.
Or we can do it ourselves, perhaps everyone chips in with the judging, minus your own beer.

We can be informal about it. No need to worry about judges knowing who's beer it is.

What do people think regarding the judging?

Ok. Well it's going to be fantastic to be able to enjoy a great tasting session with my fellow brewers. Im going to be there from the start to the finish. Last man standing!

1. Tube. Probably Kolsch from the keg.
2. ColinC Lime wheat beer kit
3. DEMPSEY still researching
4. Saruman - mooching or stout
5. imark - wit & helles bock
6   BRENMURPH

Peat smoked Dana beer (lager yeast and lagered)  This is made with DANA hops but Dana refers to "all kinds of everything"
Traditional North German Altbier (Lager yeast and lagered)
Summer Spruce ale (should be ready on time)
7. Weiss - Grapefruit hefeweizen and strawberry flavoured cider.
8. Dodge - Oud Bruin from the NHC competion.
              - Pliney the Elder clone
              - Chocolate milk stout on Nitro
              - Russian imperial stout
              - hopefully my Flanders red

I know it may be a fair amount to bring but since I may only be able to attend only a few sessions why not.

If you want me to help chair this let me know. I could easily screw it up and it would be a laugh! That's not intentionally! ;D

Thanks Shane.. The pineapple wheat is a specialty beer made by San tan brewery in arizona.. I'm trying to clone it without much success.. The pineapple putting the og through the roof.. This batch turned out around the 8% mark

Title: Re: June EHM (i.e. Extraordinary Homebrew Meet)
Post by: Saruman (Reuben Gray) on June 26, 2013, 04:10:21 PM
Yes, mini competition is on, though I only have 1 bottle.

Regarding score sheets. Perhaps anyone who wants to enter beer brings scoresheets?
To save one person printing off loads. Unless someone has access to a big printer and toner is not a problem.
Title: Re: June EHM (i.e. Extraordinary Homebrew Meet)
Post by: Saruman (Reuben Gray) on June 26, 2013, 06:51:19 PM
To summarise
Is that 15 beers? So 8 members attending from what I can see.
Every beer entered will need 7 score sheets and €2 for the pot, unless anyone wants to abstain from scoring and just enjoy the beer?
I've indicated myself as a judge. You don't judge your own beer. Everyone will know whose beer it is,  it's informal after all.
