Title: Syphons
Post by: Deckie27 on June 15, 2013, 10:33:19 AM
The same as these.
http://www.simplesiphon.com/products/
Seen these at markets car shows etc. But never realised there got so cheap
It was a fiver for a 1/2 inch unit or a tenner with about 2 meters of clear hose.
The unit had a brass/cooper look to it.

Anyone use these or with a food grade pipe would they be safe to use

Look good! For the amount of time the beer would be exposed to it shouldn't be a problem. SG ssmplss woulx be a doddle.

Found another site with a similar product. Fair play to the lads who sell petrol siphons, they are very patriotic! (These ones are guaranteed "Not Made In China")

I love my auto syphon, by far the best bit of non-essential kit I bought.

They sell the units on there own for a fiver

I bought one after seeing it on Craigtube, there are two types, a food and non food type from the original manufacturer.
http://www.safetysiphon.net/products.html
The food (Drinkable fluids)version I got is very clever and after some wrist action  ;D to get going is great, but I used it twice and too much disruption to trub unlike my autosiphon.
It now transfers petrol to the lawnmower from a gerrycan ::)

I never thought of that, it's a pity there isn't a little clip on yolk like the autosiphon that pulls in the water from the sides instead of the bottom!

If you have a 5 gallon container with trub at the bottom:

Just drop the metal bit just under the surface and w**k it like hell. When the flow starts lower the syphon down as you would with a "suck-on-it syphon tube"

This way the trub is un-disturbed (unless your right hand W*****g arm is like Popeye's)

£5 + P&P on ebay.co.uk

That's a nice price.
Any idea if this is food grade?  Or does it matter too much considering the short contact time?

Plasticiser (the stuff that makes the tube flexible) migrates to the surface like an oil, a good rinse will make it not ideal but ok.
I always transfer to secondary, no matter what style i do (I know Mad!)The problem with these is unlike my auto-siphon as I get close to the bottom there is nothing stopping the trub going straight up the tube.
