Title: Insulation/ Cladding for kegs
Post by: Ciderhead on April 01, 2013, 10:11:29 PM
Yet another post for a new topic, really losing the run of myself here

Anybody seen or used these?

Perhaps its this that caught my eye, seriously girls  ::)

In any case, I am thinking a neoprene mat that is used in camping so would be similar.

Its for my electric boiler rather than mashtun.

It would be good over 100 and I would say outside of my keggle will get to 85-90.
I need it as I was going to get 2 haden elements and leads at 2.2KW for 70 stg, but ended getting another couple of 2Kw €7 kettles each in argos today.
i wont be boiling more that 30-32 litres but will need all the help I can get
25 boils I have got from existing plastic buckets :o and I have a spare element but no sign of any any need for it ::)
The holes are 38mm as well if I want to retrofit and suddenly come into money.
Maybe I'm just too tight :)

I have my keggles double wrapped in that insulation foil. Sometimes I overheat my sparge water if I havent been paying attention & the only way to drop the temp is to take the lid off for a few mins.

If you want neoprene you could just get some old wetsuits & stitch together what you need from the torsos. I can ask around & get you a few old suits.

Hi Ciderhead,

Don't know if those camping mats would hold up to the temperature of the boiler. I wonder did you see my post on your other thread http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1364599933/15#15. If not please take a look and let me know what you decide.

The insulation I have is http://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermawrap-General-Purpose-Insulation-application/sim/B002D8NHJ8/2?.

I've used the thermowrap and it seems to help but I don't use any on my keggle and it gets 40l to the boil in jig time. 2 kettle elements.
