Title: HomebrewWest 500ml brown bottles
Post by: LordEoin on April 10, 2013, 10:38:50 PM
Have homebrewwest changed their bottles (http://www.homebrewwest.ie/brewery-quality-glass-beer-bottles-500-ml-12-pack-amber-1288-p.asp)?
I normally buy all of my bottles there to keep them uniform, but the latest lot are not the same ones as advertised on the site's photos.
They're tall and thin and pretty useless to me.

Does anyone know somewhere else that I can go to buy bottles like these?

The usual ones they have are the one in the picture and they say '500ml 58mm'
The ones they ship now say '500ml 62mm'
Although, that's not going to help, as thehomebrewcompany bottles also say '50cl 62mm' but are closer to the ones I want.
Normally, it wouldn't be such a big deal, but as almost all of my bottles are exactly the same, differences makes stacking difficult and I don't want to start mixing bottles.

Hi lads, we haven't changed bottle suppliers so the original should still be available. We did get an unusual batch of mixed bits and pieces though and its possible that they got mixed in with the usual bottles. I'm off to Brouwland this weekend so will check when we get back. Sorry about the mixup.

Sorry to hear you got a dud batch. Those bottles from HBW are normally class. I've bought a few crates of them in the past. Really thick glass, there's quite a weight in them.

The bottle #3 looks like the same bottle O'Hara's uses?

Yeah #1 looks like Whitewater or one of the newer cider company bottles. 3 I think is similar but not the same as other micros e.g. O'Hara's, Dungarvan, Hooker.

Think you're mad paying for bottles personally.  :P

Eoin, I bought 2 no 12 packs of these from HBW in February. They've got 500ml 55mm printed on the bottom, they look like the #1 bottle you've pictured.

I haven't used them yet so I can swap if you want?

The exact dimensions are 73mm diameter at the bottom and 223mm high.

But don't you know that home brewers have more money than sense. :D
At least that's what the wimmen in our lives say as they pay 10 times more than us for a haircut.

Gary, it's grand thank you. I'll just empty a few manually for now... hic... :D

Paddy, yeah they're great bottles. I've dropped them and they bounce, left them in the freezer and the caps blow off insted of the bottle popping. They take a fight of abuse :)

Goat, I like uniformity. Having 15 different shape/size bottles was wrecking my head.

HBW, no bothers. I'll leave off buying more for a while until all the mismatched ones have found new homes across the country.
