Title: American IPA
Post by: nigel_c on January 08, 2013, 04:51:45 PM
Day off today so got a brew on. Looking for a big hoppy IPA so dug out a recipe I had for Torpedo. Recipe calls for crystal hops but subbed them for Hallertauer Mittelfruh.

American IPA
Batch size 23L
Og 1.066
IBU 72
Yeast US-05

Pale Malt 6.50 Kg 90%
Crystal 63 0.25 Kg 3%
Vienna Malt 0.50 Kg 7%

Magnum 30g @ 60 min
Magnum 15g @ 30 min
Hallertauer Mittelfruh 15g @ 15 min
Citra 30g @ 5 min

Going to dry hop in aprox 10 day with
Magnum 10g dry
Hallertauer Mittelfruh 15g dry
Citra 30g dry

May throw some more citra in the keg. Will see how it goes.
Smells amazing and is nice and dry even now in the sample jar.
Mashed for 90 min @ 66c
Came up a little short in efficiency so may change my crush for the next brew day

Looks tasty - does it smell/taste similar to any commercial craft beers?

My Torpedo clone has an awful bang of Torpedo off it  ;)
