Title: Flaked Maize
Post by: Rossa on July 11, 2013, 09:43:09 PM
I've got a big big bag and won't need it all.

€1 a kg. cod but I'm not going out of my way.

Myself and Shiny might need some of that. We're doing a Rochefort 10 clone in a month or so and need to get some wheat starch. If that doesn't work out maize would be a decent alternative. If nobody else takes it off you I'll get back to you...

I have at least 10kg to get rid of!

I planned to use it in a big project but only need half of it. If I can't the DSPCA will be getting a Christmas present or new year present!

Where did you get it?

It's Connolly's Red Mills. Got it in Enniskerry.

A coincidence. I was thinking of getting some flaked barley for a stout and you can but it in the coop in 25kg bags( Red Mills too I think). It's used a lot for horse feed. I can't see why this isn't just regular barley and should be perfectly fine for brewing.
Anyone any knowlage here?

I got in touch with Red mills and they said it is the same flaked product that you would buy in a health food shop. Samesame goes for their other flaked products.

You sure about this Rossa? I asked a few other people about this and it appears a lot of animal feed grain is acid washed or other wise treated after production.

Rossa doesn't come on here anymore, red mills animal feed is not suitable for human consumption even though we eat the meat of the animal that eats it

I rang Red Mills there and the flaked barley and maize is only steamed and rolled, no acid wash or other additives.
