Title: Efficiency calc
Post by: fizzypish on July 24, 2013, 01:07:36 PM
Used an efficiency calc to see how I was faring.

Gravity at 100% Efficiency:   1.097 - max
Gravity at 75% Efficiency:   1.073
Efficiency:                                   61.81%
Points / Pound / Gallon (ppg):   22.8

Thought I might be a bit better than that. How does efficiency figures average out among  home brewers. I think my mash tun is a little bit too tall. O well, beers cracking so that's what matters!

I normally get in the mid to high 70s but a lot can depend on the sample you take out. Make sure to mix the first and second runnings well before taking a sample.

The gravity reading I used in the calc was just before I pitched so both runnings were well mixed at that point.

BIAB, up to 85%, I don't bother measuring now and take a much more hit and miss approach, if the beer is good I'm not so fussy about measuring stuff etc. I know my system well enough to get what I want out.

Nice! I'm getting close to not needing to measure various things now that my new system is bedding down.
