yeah yeah, only for looking at etc.

But if I were to make an unhopped malty beverage, with maybe some 6row smoked malt, and a neutral ale yeast...

Any advice, without incriminating yourself?

Just do it. Nobody gives a sh**e about some wooly jumpered eejit tryin to make whiskey in his kitchen. In terms of advice there has to be literature floatin around the web and by the sounds of it you seem to have half a plan already

No practical advice and I'd steer well clear personally, but http://homedistiller.org (http://homedistiller.org) is pretty interesting and this youtube video of guy making moonshine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-nGbAf81Zs) in a pressure cooker with animal feed  :o is a bit of an eye opener.
