Title: Where to get compression joint for Thermometer
Post by: Buri on August 13, 2013, 02:29:47 PM
Hi

I need to fit my DS1820 thermometer inline of my pipework for the mashtun. Thermometer is uncased in 8mm tube.
my pipework is 1/2 inch.

But I can't find reducers that can reduce 1/2 inch to 8mm OD of my DS1820 casing.
Any advise which set of reducers and where to get them ? shop?

Thanks

How about this (http://www.norfolkmarine.co.uk/shop-online/male-stud-coupling-tube-male-parallel-p-21357.html)?

Have you a link for the thermometer you are using? It sounds interesting.

Or try this (http://www.gasproducts.ie/acatalog/8mm_Compression_x_1_4__Bsp_Male_T_.html) with this (http://www.gasproducts.ie/acatalog/1_2__x_1_4__Bsp_Hex_Reducing_Bush_.html).

hiya Buri,

Depends what you need. Is it a female or male thread you need?
Garry has given you two good solutions providing you have a female thread to mount the thermometer in.
Most likely though reducing from 1/2" to 8mm is gonna need more than one fitting so bring your thermometer with you to a plumbing supplier (deffo dont go to woodies or b&q) with a sample of the pipe you are trying to marry it to and I'd say for around five euro you'll have what you need. I do this regularly in Higgins and DPL in Galway and they are always happy to help.
