Title: Harris 'vin clear' finings
Post by: LordEoin on August 13, 2013, 07:38:19 PM
how long is wine ok to sit on finings/deposit?
I went gung-ho on finings before remembering that i have no empty bottles, so they'll be sitting on the finings for a few days

Yeah, I suppose they'll be 'fine' ;D

It's been so long since I used finings that I forgot how great they are.
Like a fool, I've been letting wines clear naturally for up to a year.
Lesson learned. Finings from now on!

Why not rack off into a demijohn until you have bottles free? I always do that anyway, to reduce the risk of dragging any of the lees through into my bottles, let it settle for a couple of days, and then bottle.

I was thinking of doing that alright but it looks like they're still clearing a bit with some smaller lumps still in suspension.
I might leave them til tomorrow night, then rack them ready for filtering and bottling next week.

Here's the progress after a couple of days, pretty damn clear compared to the pea-soup that was in there a few days ago! ;D
