Looks good. What flavour of yeast are you using?
Not ideal but as I have 2 brews already in fermenting fridge have to revert back to something I did years ago a water bath where the stc controls the 2 heater bands
The probe is in the bucket of water
Will post more pics showing fermentation later that's all for now just clean up :-(

OG including starter 1.040

Good stuff John, you just need to get a walk in fermenting fridge to handle all those brews...

wlp001 it was washed from a hooker clone, first time washing for nearly a year I had to recheck Tubes wiki again last night.

Great thread CH. Thanks for posting.
Your mill hopper is genius :)
That was a great read, thanks :)
Great thread - really good way to see someone elses system - commiserations on the carboy
Nice work . Great pictorial guide.

Nice one John. Thanks for the masterclass ;)
Thanks for the comments chaps i was really trying to show non AG brewers my process, as I review pics I didn't put enough info in places and it's fine if you already know AG but some of it is a bit fragmented and although I know my own 1,2,3 and can do it in my sleep, still a bit tricky to take pics and continue the brew.
One of these days I am going to trot into TOG, video it and put it in YouTube
TT
I love threads like this!

Hard to document much better that this in real time.
Great post CH.
Demijohns also don't like boiling water!
Hi Ciderhead,
Being the cheap opportunist that I am would you extend that offer of videoing to a suggested keg tutorial that I was trying to organise? If so would you mind updating the other thread I created.
Not to be accused of being off topic your setup looks sweet. I can't imagine how difficult it is to remember everything and also stop and photograph everything. I particularly like the bees and how you dealt with them. I take it from the smoker that your an apiarist? If so can you help in getting rid of wasps?

as someone striving to get going in AG, i find this a great description.
Many thanks
She blew off not totally unexpectedly, probably the O2 again as there was plenty of room?

Apparently that crud that sticks on the top of the carboy can be quite bitter ( I thought it was just dried Yeast) and influence the taste of light beers as this is so will be careful moving it to secondary.
Yeast party going on still and plenty of yeast in the blowoff but this lot has served it's purpose and will be flushed when going to secondary

Just transferred to secondary, just sitting at 1020, two points above target confident I'll get there, tastes great, bit of a bun fight going on with the cascade and amarillo, slightly cloudy.
Thanks john - picked up a few tips there from your pics !
What's that gravity scale - chart thingy ?
You mean this?

Handy for taking small samples throughout the boil to see that you are on track for OG and ditto in fermentation, very small sample required for mid and final gravity fermentation

Amazing set up big man!
I love the "Full cold break" pic with the camera in the reflection - very arty!
cool ! - thanks - anothor toy for teh Santy List !!
Finished out at 3.9, this would be a perfect summer session beer ;), but a little hazy so gonna tank the fridge to 5 Degrees from 20 to see if anything wants to fall out before I keg.
Also remember cooling like this will create suckback on your bubbler into carboy so I tend not to have a lot in the bubbler at this point.

When using these an app to calculate fg is a must (I use beersmith) to accurately calculate gravity after fermentation once you have your brix value.
The Amarillo is going out but still have the bitterness from cascade

Nice simple recipe and another style ticked off the list
damn you... you made me thirsty
I love the Fenix CH
Good spot ;D TK 35, 860 lumens, was 120 now 90 sterling and batteries and special charger are another 20, I have a couple of them and their baby brother a TK 30. In the boonies they keep the bogeyman at bay.
Have my eye on TK 75 ???
Aldi have something similar for €13 at the moment.
It takes 3 AAA batteries though.
Darlings, For Fock Sake, you pair of Philistines
Now one of the mods please lock this topic before it goes any further off topic.
@CH
Great thread. Thanks for a run through your process.
I'm very interested in your keggle construction. Can you outline the parts you have used to connect your SS diptube to the nipple (I presume?) through the keg wall. I'd like to copy your setup but don't know what parts to use.
Regards.

This isn't really going to help you
http://www.homebrewing.org/10-Stainless-Steel-Flat-False-Bottom-for-keg-kettles_p_1009.html
Top tip, assemble it first and if you want to clean and remove base plate easily cut your dip tube just above the plate and use a piece of silicon tubing which will allow you to remove the base plate for cleaning.
Have a look at Damos thread on this which is slightly different but just as effective.
Thanks. I'll have a look at this.
Found an interesting Norcal installation document that explains things. Thanks for tip on compression fitting.

Found some reasonably priced Chinese compression fittings on Ebay under search "double ferrule 1/2 npt stainless". Npt I realise may not suit some.
