Title: Old Belfast Brewery Yeast
Post by: Metattron on September 04, 2013, 10:52:23 PM
Has anyone cultured up a Clotworthy Dobbin yeast?  Does anyone know if it's filtered?  Might give it a go this week.

It's definitely filtered, was talking to Bernard about it.

Update on this: I had a bottle of Whitewater's Copperhead the other day and there was a good bit of yeast at the bottom. First time I've noticed it in their beers so it may have been a filtering problem. I'm not sure about pasteurisation though but I'd assume Tesco and Sainsburys are getting their supply pasteurised anyway.

Bernard told us they only pasteurise beer for export, i.e. to the likes of Italy, due to the running costs of the pasteuriser.

Have a go at growing it up?

The best before date is always 12 months after production though, would that not suggest it's been pasteurised?

I'll have a go at growing it next time I'm having a few.

But I don't understand why then they bother pasteurising the foreign bottles? Surely they'd expect any product exported to be sold and consumed within 12 months as well?
