Title: Bunsen Burner
Post by: Partridge9 on September 12, 2013, 01:26:35 PM
Lads,

Anyone point me in the direction of a good bunsen burner that doesnt cost a bomb?

These look grand
http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Natural-Gas-Bunsen-Burner-BNIB-/281163650573?pt=UK_Crafts_Glass_Art_Supplies_CV&hash=item4176a8d60d
but then you need the pipe

and then you need to connect this to gas via regulator ..

Not a clue where to get them ..

Any ideas ?

It will cost you 3GBP to get it delivered with ParcelMotel and you should be able to find some regs on ebay as well.

Edit: Just noticed that it's an auction, so you have to win it first :/

I'm going to make mine from an old blow torch with the nozzle bent upwards.

Ive this one hooked up to a mini butane gas bottle I had for the camping stove.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-complete-Bunsen-burner-set-for-use-with-BOTTLED-LPG-GAS-/121171839934?pt=UK_BOI_Medical_Lab_Equipment_Lab_Equipment_ET&hash=item1c36678bbe

The one you listed is natural gas. Im guessing that makes them incompatible with butane?

You could always use a chefs blow torch if all yer doing is nuking inoculation loops.

That's the kinda thing I was looking for -

there are tonnes of cheap Bunsen burners - but its hard to get info on hooking it up to the gas tank.

@Shane - its for a yeast lab - to create that 'channel of clean air' that Shiny did at the Demo

@HopBomb - I don't really mind what gas is used - but would prefer a small tank (soda stream size),
that link you posted is fine - but where do I get a small gas canister and a small regulator (if required)

I was looking at camping gaz type ones as well - but they are coming in at about 50-70 euro.

Just curious about how others are setup ?!

I'm using one of these (http://dx.com/p/503-pen-style-windproof-handle-deep-blue-jet-butane-gas-lighter-black-187608) propped up vertically until I get the blow torch going.

With my bunsen burner I use this reg:  http://www.gasproducts.ie/acatalog/LPG_Reca_Low_Pressure_Butane_Gas_Regulator.html
with a 4.5 kg butane gas bottle. If I didnt have the reg & gas already Id have just gone the gas soldering iron or mini chef blow torch route. Is bunsen overkill (pardon the pun)
for inoculation? If you want lab equipment to go with your conicals its a must haha.
