Title: Bottle drying
Post by: googoomuck on September 26, 2013, 08:59:28 PM
 I've never bottled before just used a king keg but going to bottle a stout soon. If you don't have a bottle tree (like myself), how rigorous should I be in making sure they are dry? I'm going to sanitize them in vinegar/bleach I know its no rinse but as long as they are not soaking wet they should be ok? Right?!

It's better if they are wet. As long as they are wet you know it's sanitized. I use the bleach/water/vinegar for sanitizing bottles and always fill the bottles while they're still wet.

A sheet of plywood with a load of holes drilled in it is good for draining bottles.

Get a bottle tree Goo! Its indispensable for bottling IMO. U could rinse and stack them in dishwasher in the meantime

i just stand them upside-down on the kitchen counter.
Any sanitizer that drips down makes a sterile seal around the mouth of the bottle.
I've only had them come tumbling down once, but I'd rather forget that experience...

Thanks for the info guys! @Gary that's a great idea, in my head I was drilling holes in lats of wood and adding dowels to make some sort of frame. But a sheet of ply wood, brilliant!!
@Lars it's on my Christmas list :)
@LordEoin I think this is what I will be doing, with no one else in the house and all drafts covered and pillows on the floor.

I should have made some reference/joke here as to the Mrs not liking being called a dishwasher. Moment is gone now.......

Got my stout and cider bottled last night, no major problems. Stacking the bottles up on the counter worked a treat but next time I will be investing in a bottle tree (it almost went horribly wrong when the coopers bottles all tumbled over sending a single glass bottle on a bit of a wobble). The stout was delicious and I was very surprised at the turbo ciders quality. I was on a roll so I got on a batch of coopers IPA also, that's going into a king keg though!! Cheers again for the tips lads!!
