Title: Green tomatoes
Post by: nigel_c on October 03, 2013, 02:17:09 PM
The father in law has tomatoes growing his Polly tunnel and I got about 10kg of green tomatoes off him the other day. They are as rule as they are gonna get so am looking for some tried and tested recipes to use them up. Am gonna do some chutneys and soups but anyone got any other ideas?

Ripen them indoors? Stick them in a box by a bright window with a banana inside. The banana will release gas that helps ripen them.

The Banana trick works. I've a bunch of tomatoes on a windowsill at the moment going red.

Yes it is Ethylene that bannanas and apples give off when ripernning that speeds up tomatoes.
I would ripen some and turn the rest in a green toamto chutney. There are plenty of recipes on tinterweb thingy!
