Title: Yeast in Einstok Toasted Porter
Post by: delzep on October 08, 2013, 11:32:01 AM
Missus had a bottle of Einstok Toasted Porter and I noticed there was a fair bit of sediment in the bottle. Anyone know if this could be salvagable and what the strain might be? The beer is from Iceland, so could be something a bit more unusual than what we are used to?

Old Welsh Saying:

"Always inspect the empty bottle! If there's a remote chance of yeast pop in a bit of malty/sugary water (1.040) into the bottle, shake, cap with a bit of tinfoil. Next day see whats happening and pitch into a starter!"

I might give that a go, but I was hoping someone here might know the strain. Wouldn't bother if it was something like s04 or whatever

Iceland is full of American stuff -  cars, beer, culture so I wouldnt be surprised if its white labs. Nice beer that. Had it at the weekend for a whopping 6.10e per bottle in Bierhaus Galway.

It's £2 in Belfast!

Afaik, it's made in Iceland by an American company so it's probably some American yeast. Freshness might be more of an issue than with Irish/English bottled conditioned beers.
