Title: Delivery Difficulty'
Post by: Greg2013 on October 11, 2013, 09:36:40 PM
Been talking to Shane from HBC about a delivery situation that has cropped up. I want to place an order with HBC,just a kit and a few essentials, thing is i am in college all week and don't get home until at least 19.00hrs every evening. Once HBC dispatches the order it's no longer under their control. Therein lies the problem, DPD will not garauntee a time for deliuvery or even a two hour window like what Tesco do. So when i am below in WIT how the hell am i supposed to accept delivery? Viable suggestions please.

Getting someone else to accept delivery on my behalf is NOT an option. ;D

How about delivery to the college?  Anywhere you can pick it up there?

I could get it delivered to the college but timing is an issue then, cant have phones on in lectures, not even supposed to have them to hand while in class tbh.

Call DPD and see if you can work something out with them.  I've always found them helpful, both up here and in Dublin.  When I lived in Dublin the driver lived not too far from me and he would bring them home and I could pick them up from him at his house.  He had a few kegs and taps in the house so was always up for a bit of beer talk.   :D Is your DPD depot far from you?   You can always collect from there.

Get it delivered to whatever  parcel motel (http://www.parcelmotel.com/) is closest to college. Parcel Motel was invented for these situations, when you figure out its potential you will realise how AMAZING it is. Seriously!.

If that depot by WIT is also your local depot, they will try to deliver to you and if you aren't in they will leave a card and take your parcel back to the depot.  Take the card to the depot and collect there the next day.

The DPD guys I've dealt with down here have been grand. I'd say they'll have no problem with you picking up from the depot if you call them and explain.

Thanks guys. Does that mean so that when i place my order with HBC that i should mail DPD to hold the order at the Waterford depot for pickup?

I've had dealings with multiple couriers over the years.
Generally they will leave your stuff wherever you want if you're not there.
Is there a shop or garage nearby, maybe one of your neighbours?

How about they leave your stuff at the back of your house? They've done that for me I the past. They don't need signatures once you agree this verbally.

Just make sure you've got a spot that's dry and not too hot if you've got yeast on the way.

john's right, i've never actually physically signed for anything from DPD.

You'll probably be ok with yeast as well - just give it a bit of TLC before you pitch it.

My regular driver used to know to throw the package over the back gate if I wasn't home. He got a few homebrews here and there cos he was curious.

Yep i think a friendly chat with the local depot would be in order, could make life a lot easier. Hope they are better to deal with than Fastaway main office. ::)
