Just ordered a Coopers IPA tin but instead of buying malt I have decided to crush and steep some of the wholegrain base malt I have here. How much would I need to crush and steep to bring the wort to at least 1050 for a 23 litre batch?
When you say wholegrain I assume you mean pale malt and that you are going to mash it. 5Kg at 72% extraction will give you 1047.

Yes sorry meant the uncrushed grain from the last GB. Will be using the ale malt i got from that i think, possibly a mix of that and the whiskey malt ? :-\
What's the average gravity reading of the kit ?
O guess you have quiet a bit of the base malts, and the purpose here is to raise it by a few points and maybe add a little malt complexity to the flavour ?
Would the base malt add much flavour complexity ?
I'm thinking you would only need to steep @ 1 kg or something like that ?
with a coopers can, mashing about 2.75kg of grain will get you to about 1.050 at 23liters.
Don't add the kit can until after your boil or you'll ruin all the lovely flavours that Coopers have packed in there for you :)

No clue Damo on the gravity, my purpose here was to brew a normal coopers kit and kilo IPA. However i then got the brain fart of cruching some of my malt here and using that instead of the normal dextrose and spray malt. Don't know if it will be a good idea, but i don't see why it should not work? ;D Cheers.

Was going with 3kg so i guess i got that about right. Good point on adding the coopers tin late on Cheers.
