Is 175x high enough magnification for yeast cells?

A cool toy anyway for pretty cheap!

At 175 mag you should just about see the cells. Normally for cell counting you use 400x

As for the Nokia phone then I am sure that any phone with  a camera will do as its the secondary lens that does the optical magic

The suggestion in te instructable was to use the lens from a Laser pointer.
Does anyone here know optics well enough to ham together better magnification?
