Title: Brewing journal
Post by: pk on November 01, 2013, 05:05:32 PM
Lads, do you all keep a brewing journal and if so what notes do you keep?

When doing an extract (I'm still a beginner) I make some notes on what spray malt I used, timings, how long its been in the fermenter and how long its been in bottles and how it tastes! Not much else. I have not been taking gravity readings.

What do you guys record?

Yep. But mostly because of the amount of variables in all grain. If you're extract you probably just need to keep track of your ingredients, your post boil gravity, your fermentation temps, your final gravity and if it tastes nice.

I record in a notebook, OG,FG, Volume into bottles, priming rate, quantites of malt/hops used because i never take any back out if I overshoot a little when weighing, water treatment

I use this. It's more a checklist to make sure I make the right measurements and don't forget anything on the day.

Maybe also keep a note of hop harvest date and alpha acid content?
