Is there any difference? Using Open Office at home and MS Office at work.
Pretty much the same :P
You can also use Google Docs...

I have tried 3 torrents so far tonight and all were duds. My normal two sites have both been shut down after years of faithful service. ATM i don't have the time to re familiarise myself with Open Office editing, have assignments to do and thought i might have been able to get a copy of MS Office for the laptop by now.

Everything in college is done through MS Office 2007 so that's what i need for now just to get through this semester.

With the torrented ones you are likely to get some nice viruses thrown in for free.  Stick with OpenOffice, its not that different.

I wouldn't say you're "likely", I've been using torrents for years and never gotten one. Plenty of torrent sites offer reviews and you can scan it before opening it as well.

Flipping Virgin have blocked half the torrent sites I used to use.

But I do agree with Eoin; they're usually pretty rubbish. IsoHunt for episodes of Breaking Bad has been the extent of my use of them in the last 12 months.

Office Web Apps is free, and it's a pretty functional version of Microsoft Office. You just need to be connected to the net to use it.

Don't know how people can hack open office and the rest, tried it and it made the €79 I paid for MS Office seem like a bargain. If you're still looking for Office 2007 I think I have the disk and a spare license somewhere.

LibreOffice is probably better than open office at this point - much the same but better development community.  And still free!

Greg if you have a student card you may be able to get the Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013 for $139.99 http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/home-and-student/

From there you *should* have an option in the file saving menu to save in a format compatible with office 2007 or possibly even older versions.
