6.5kw

I don't use gas but from looking into it for myself and chatting with our UK cousins the minimum BTU they use on a keg is 8.5 KW.

im comfortably boiling 30 litres on 2.5kw, the keg would need to be wrapped up though as the losses would be significant. Im hoping to boil 40 litres down to 34 litres for my conical

This one seems to be a standard for us gas brewers at the moment!
http://www.gasproducts.ie/acatalog/Large_Square_Gas_Boiling_Ring.html

Looks similar to the one you've linked to but you'll have it delivered for about €40.

Even 6.5kW is good enough to roll boil 50 litres of liquid.

Going to pick one of these up but it'll be the first time I used gas so can I ask those who did get it which type of fittings should I be getting with this? ie I'm seeing both High Pressure and Low pressure hoses, regulators then there is multiple sizes of hose 8mm, 8.3mm and 10mm! HELP!!

Are you going to use Butane (Yellow bottles) or Propane (red bottles)?

Propane can give more heat and works much better in winter and is the dogs if you want to run big blowlamps etc.

If Butane then get the adjustable Butane reg - it allows better flame control

If Propane then you need an adjustable low pressure reg. But there is a problem: The Burner is designed for Butane hose that has a 8mm ID and is coloured Orange. I think the longest length they can legally sell you is 2 meters.

Propane hose is about 4.5 mm Id and is coloured black.

My advice decide on the gas, then phone them, tell them you live south of them and so need our Republican bottle fittings.

They will make sure you get exactly what you want.

They are a very good company

Thanks Will,

I was planning on the Butane so I take it that I need the adjustable Butane reg and 8mm Orange hose - should I get Low or High Pressure? or as you say best to give them a call to make sure I get the right kit

Black hose is hi-pressure Propane!

Mains (i.e. Natural gas) is NOT high pressure! Its actually fairly low pressure!

DO NOT EFF ABOUT WITH MAINS GAS!

The irony of Mister Burns looking to use gas has not been lost on me.

I have a gas cooker and a fire that both run on gas tanks, apart from the cost I wouldn't even consider gas as my method for heating my HLT or Boiler  :(

Burns: Who's that goat-legged fellow? I like the cut of his jib.
Smithers: That's the Prince of Darkness, sir. He's your eleven o'clock.
Burns: Ex-cellent.

Ive been using my super efficient stiove burning a country blend at about <30 euros per week for my whole place including my gym, with a proper efficient system I'd agree with ciderhead, Im buyin premium smokeless at 14.25 a bag and using less than 2 bags a week during cold weather.

I have never came close to this efficiency using my 'efficient' oil system so I generally just allow the oil heating to work as a frost stat system coming on when necessary and running to keep all pipes frost free.

Dont think we will ever go back to oil as a main fuel especially when u sit around the superstove on a winters evening with a nice beer ;)

Now you just have to work out how you use it for your HLT :)
