Should we do something different for the December meet? Like dinner in the Hudson with partners or something? Might be a good way to repay some of their hospitality?
Going for a Wednesday/Thursday evening as weekends in December are usually too busy!
Defos canny do 19th as it's my work Xmas do, and I wanna leave it a bit later in the month so my latest brew is ready and primed...
i voted 12th
thats the dec beer club. dinner then beer club anyone?
The 12th? That's Black Sabbath night. Surely you are all going?
A bit Scroogy, but I'm going to a few dinners this year and money will be tight as it is! So I vote the usual piss up!

I can't do tonight because it's Queens of the Stone Age night.
I know tonight wasn't one of the options but I just had to tell folk about QOTSA :)

Nice one Bazza! Enjoy!
I've 50L of my latest brew to bottle! Might have to crank up the volume to help get me through all the bottle cleaning!
Middle of the month I should be able to manage! Definitely wanna get down to this one
Aye, gutted I missed the last one. Can't do the 12th, unfortunately; work team Christmas dinner and, crucially, paid for by work :P

Sounds like a plan Matt, I cant doing anything after the 13th Dec as I will be in SA
Cool so 11th or 12th - I'll ring the Hudson and check the craic for either of those nights.
Are we bringing homebrew samples to this? Should we se if they can get us an interesting beer or two to sample?
I'm thinking some sort of rinsey Quad or something like the Black Sheep - Progress Celebration Ale.
could do- see what they say
if they can't - id be keen to be a no homebrew night and support hudson with their beers entirely for an evening
thoughts?
Sounds good to me. As you say it would be good to support their beers. I see they've a guest tap now - pretty rinsey!
Guest tap in the Hudson??? Nice one. That bar just went up another notch in my estimation.
Don't judge me but I genuinely like wetherspoons. Was there for a few pre-gig pints last night. Whitewater Hoppelhammer for £2.65! get in!

lol barry
yeah, hudson are about to compltely change their whole beer selection. theyve added in tiny rebel and are gonna do 2 rotating guest taps each month afaik
Yeah it's Tiny Rebel's Fubar on first - 2 rotating guest taps will be class!
Just about to ring - will check the 11th (or 12th as a 2nd choice) for 8-10 around 7-8pm. I'll keep yeees posted.
Right - spoke to the Hudson!
They're gonna email me menus and we can book with a £5 deposit per head. Would setting up a paypal thing be the best way to go?
Sounds good, a paypal option would work for me
Good stuff! We're provisionally booked for the 11th at 7.30 - see attached for the menu.
We just need the deposit to confirm - I've double checked PayPal and as far as I can see they won't charge if I use it for collecting deposits. Does anyone know if this is right?
Sorry folks - guess I'm to remain annonymous!
11th doesn't suit - the Mrs has her xmas-do and as I'm out 12th (Black Sabbath night as previously declared), 13th for my own works-do and the 14th for our footy club do - its a busy week!
Enjoy!
Didn't realise we were gonna do a proper Christmas menu...it may price me out of this :-\ Money is a wee bit tight, shall consult the missus!
That Tiny Rebel FUBAR is amazing!

Is this cask Whitewater in Wetherspoons? Been trying to get the Derry ones to order in more stuff from Ireland but always just get the response "we normally just have it in for festivals".

Yep; they had that and Belfast Ale on tap last week and the week before.

Didn't know they got craft beers in on draught. I've fired off an email to Wetherspoons so hopefully they'll take note.
Would the Hudson not just have the standard menu available?
Money's gonna be a prob for me, too. Dunno if I'll make this...

I will check this out today!
Do we also need to rethink the meet if dinner is pricing people out of it? Would beers and some sides (chicken wings, etc.) be better?
The Cucina Povera place will certainly be open. Surely just a matter or finding enough space for us all somewhere in the bar?
I know that's what I thought we were talking about originally, just a more relaxed meet with some food.

Cool! Will see today - what is the Cucina Povera?
Don't change anything on my behalf, I'm just having to be a bit cheap over the next few weeks, as Xmas is absolutely destructive. Drinking and eating at the Hudson would, I imagine, be quite pricey!
Tamsin and I have decided to forgo our usual Xmas meal out and just do something nice at home - so every aspect of my social expenditure is facing austerity!
You guys just do whatever and I and others can always make it down later for a few swall-meisters...

Seems to be their bar food menu
no its a new restaurant opened in the corner by the royal ave entrance. they still do bar food separately, in the bar. the restaurant is a separate building and menu
Cool! They're gonna email through more menus so I'll get them up.
Sounds like it will be grand to have an area for us without having to pay a deposit and we can order from whatever menu.
Will keep yous posted!
Here are 2 more menu options - see attached.
What does everyone think?
They've to get back to me on the Cucina Povera place.
I could go a Crowes peppered steak :-)

Chaps will you put this in the Calendar, thanks!
Ah yeah - will get it in now!
either of those menus sound good to me. Altough I am partial to chicken wings so canape menu option 1
Sorry for the lack of replies the last few days. Just back from a 3-day musical festival in Camber Sands, SE England (ATP - All Tomorrow's Parties) and, due to a heady mixture of late nights, loud bands, crowd-surfing, pogo-ing, huge amounts of whiskey and gallons of awful beer (aka Tetley - I eventually caved in and just went on the Stella) I've only today returned to work and partial normality.
Either of those 2 menus look good to me. I think the Christmas menu was a bit of an ask on folk, so hopefully the cheaper option will coax more folk down next Wednesday.
Cheers,
-Barry
i think we should make a documentary of Barry's life...

Too late, Matthew; it's been done. They called it 'Last of the Summer Wine'.

Was in Camber Sands a few years ago.
You weren't at Pontins, were you? That's where the festival was, and it was a total sh*thole. Still, chalets beat tents any day.
-Barry
Definitely up for the normal menu!
I shall be there!!
So, what's the deal here - are we all bringing our SO's to this one, as a means of convincing them that people you meet through the internet aren't necessarily weirdos i.e. forum does not equal chat room?
-Barry
So will we go for the normal menu then? Andy - I think it has chicken wings on it? This is definitely better as people can eat as much or as little as they like!
Barry - yeah if they're up for it!!
Depending on the GF's shift patterns I'm sure I can convince her
Just spoke to them - we still have to do £5 a head and pre-order our food regardless of the menu. Would everyone be ok with this?
Yeah, I'm sure I can do that
£5, no problem. Just need to nudge the missus into a commitment. Was there a time decided?
Apologies for appearing twisted here, but pre-order our food regardless of the menu? Is that not a little difficult until we decide on a menu?
Cheers,
-Barry
Sorry Barry - I thought we'd run with the normal menu but maybe, as we have to prepay and order, one of the canape menus would be better?
Ah right, got you, Chris. My grasp of written English isn't quite restored yet :)
Nah; I'm fine with the normal menu if everyone else is.
Cheers,
-Barry
Ah cool man! ;D
How should we do this? I won't be in Belfast until Sunday - could maybe drop the deposits in then or they might take it over the phone by card.
Can Paypal be used to collect deposits?
My problem with deposits and pre-ordering is that it formalises it and might be prohibitive to new people turning up?
Even if you do the "sending money to family and friends"?
Ah cool - will maybe do it different then!
I'm with you, Chris, on the whole down-payment annoyance, but I suppose you can't blame them given how important the Christmas trade is.
Would it be worth getting a quick roll call of who's definitely going?
Also, I'm sure the Hudson, or any other place for that matter, will hardly turn away any extra business that shows up, if they have the capacity.
-Barry
Good plan! Do a list thing?
1. Chris and Moira
1. Chris and Moira
2. Bill and Natalie
Are we cutting this all a bit close? Probably won't see the forum over the weekend

Yeah, that's a fair point. When do the Hudson need final numbers and deposit, Chris?
-Barry
I will be there
Can we get details for sending the deposit to you Chris
Sorry - today's been hectic. Yep just waiting on them getting back to me - will paypal be a mission with charges? Do you want to pm me your choices?
1. Chris and Moira
2. Bill and Natalie
3. Barry and [girl from the agency]
4. Keith and his lonely self (maybe Barry can get a 2for1 at the agency?)
I'm only 10min drive from Hudson (Stockmans Way) so can drop in whatever needs sorted.

Anyone who's up for it - just pm me your choices. I'm calling in after work today to sort deposits etc.
Stupid family Christmas stuff :(
If you still need my deposit I'll get it to you somehow
Great, I'll bring a bottle of the strawberry cider.
Hopefully this experiment is drinkable lol ;)

Hi man! Ah sorry man but we weren't planning on sampling homebrews so I haven't cleared it with them - this is more of a festive meetup for a few commercial ones.

It's 7:30.
Deposits paid - because it's a Wednesday it'll be ok if anyone else wants to come along on a whim!
Sorry Chris, I would have messaged my choices but I was in GB early this morning and arrived late this evening. I will still be there.
That's grand - no worries man see you there. They weren't too worried about pre-ordering food so it'll be grand ;D
who's coming to the hudson tomorrow night too for some porter and stouts?
goose island bourbon county, brewdogs new ris, brooklyn chocolate, darkstar espresso, founders porter and nogne
Folks - enjoy your night out at The Hudson. Sorry I can't make it.
Also sorry I can't make tomorrow nights stout & porter tasting session either.
I do hope to call into The Hudson at some point on Friday for a few, so please leave me something to drink!
Enjoy!
Andy

Nice one Andy! Enjoy Black Sabbath - that'll be an absolute rinse-out!
iTube - My mate tells me there are plenty of tickets available on Gumtree at good prices.
You could still make the front row......but just give me room to play my guitar!
Hi All,
Decent wee night in the Hudson there. Good food and good company.
Keith - that cider will be nicely matured for the next meet. Looking forward.
Andy - Good luck with tonight's brew and safe trip to SA.
Moira/Chris/Iain - Good seeing youse again and cheers for the lift (to no stated abode) :)
Hudson - Lovely food. The Fubar was decent too. Sweet!
By tonight's chat it looks like a late Jan or Feb wort cooler build day could be on the cards.
But remember - the forum's here for you - post it if you want it.
Cheers,
-Barry
Nice one Barry - we really enjoyed it. Good to see everyone again and the food was great!
Great time last night, good to see you all again.
The brew went ok, finished up at 2345 so not to bad - cleaning up as you go along. Had a boiler over at one point, otherwise uneventful.
Cheers
Andy
Good to meet everyone again, had a great night. The good was very tasty indeed.
Barry - I might sneak a wee bottle of the cider this weekend, hopefully it's not vinegar or White Lightning lol
Andy - I quickly read that as 2345 OG and thought, that's gonna be a head wrecker lol!
I'll keep you all posted on the possibility of a wort chiller build day.

Didn't see it and I can usually spot a bottle of kernel from a mile off! ;D
Let us know if they do - that'll be class when they get those in! I've been really enjoying the partizan saisons recently.
they have them already, just mustnt have put them out yet
cant wait
The Hudson will just have to wait until tomorrow!
Sabbath calls >:D
