Title: Diastatic power of a kit
Post by: Will_D on November 21, 2012, 02:44:41 PM
Quick question:

Is there any diastatic power in a kit? (i.e. The normal Coopers or other kit and a kilo starter )

If so I could use it to mash some speciality grains for a "use up whats in the cupboard" sort of brew.

QuoteI don't know for certain but I wouldn't think so. The conversion is complete and the enzymes are long gone.

+1 enzymes would have been killed in the concentration of the wort at the latest, if not the mash out.

As I thought but what about the EDME malts that were diastatic?

Are the LME's DME's that we currently use diastatic?
