Generally to activate a card you just need to use it once. Physically not online.

You need to either use it in an ATM, or use phone banking to activate.

Cheers guys it seems it was on the news that UB have a fault in their system today so i guess i will have to try again in the morning, it will not allow me to activate it on their online banking site, will just wait i guess. >:(

In general its necessary to use your new card in an atm before its 'activated' for use. If you have any problems registering the card on paypal after that you may need to call the customer service number of your bank to sort it out. I had the same problem a few months ago and got sorted by calling the customer service number of my bank.

Well the new card works fine in the ATM and i just successfully updated paypal, now if i only had any money(poor student) :P

On a more serious note i had been thinking of switiching to AIB as you can deposit money with them through post office, also they have a branch in college and more branches around the country that UB i think? Any thoughts on this ?

Do BOI and AIB both have a proper online banking service? That will be the deciding factor in moving banks with my millions of imaginary euro. Have to say though in the south east at least AIB do seem to have more branches scattered around ?

I'd look into the Bank charges before making a decision, they can add up these days.

N.B.
A word of note to you all, don't do all your banking with the one bank. Keep credit cards in one place and deposit A/C's in another and your rainey day A/C in another. Cayman Isles is a good location for this or Isle of Mann but not as sunny.

P.S. if you don't know what N.B. is Google it

and same goes for P.S. :)
