I see them like I see any other online business. Once they give me prompt delivery, reasonable price, good selection and deal with mistakes in a timely manner I'm very happy(THBC score highly on all counts for me). I dont think any online retailer has ever given me a freebee. You cant expect the same form them as you would from a pub you frequent

try that in centra/burger king/next and see what happens.  you cant automatically expect any business to give out free stuff just because its christmas.

Ordered good few packs of dried yeast last summer with mybeerandwine.ie but had to wait about 3 weeks. I wasn't badly stuck for it but was told I'll get something extra for waiting this long. I thought it will be extra sachet of yeast but 30'' ss mash paddle arrived instead  ;D

I'd say that's different Alex, it was a goodwill gesture to make good for a problem. But good on them none the less.

As a goodwill gesture I might ask Microsoft to take Windows8 off my laptop and stick it up their .... oh hang on, aye; that was a different thread.

We were talking about those paddles the other night, and how they're like giant heat sinks, sucking heat out of your mash, and how you'd need an extra degree or two to compensate for them!

Could make the same arguement for using a metal tap instead of a plastic one

That's why on my pictorial brew you saw me sit it in HLT.
They are great mash paddles and also good for beating rugs!

Now that I think of it, they did give me some plastic tubing in THBC one time when I dropped in physically.

In fairness I'm happy to give them my money if it means they'll stay in business and be there next time I need them.

Jaysus bad form sticking that up there.... Im all for criticising when you receive bad service but that post is a joke.

Jimmy, Covey is from the country, where they still open the doors for girls, give way to traffic from side roads and say hello if you meet someone on the road or wave if you are in cars even if you don't know them.
Covey, Jimmy is from the city where everybody is out to screw everyone else, don't bat an eyelid for stopping on a double yellow line or yellow box and don't know the name of your next door neighbour.

There is a middle ground but I'm not sure it ever includes gratuities from online retailers and 5% over the year is good enough for me.

Try and see this from their perspective, and posting about this on the forum is not only poor form but it also proves the point.

You ask for free stuff because it's Christmas, if they DID give you something you would have been on the forum telling people to do the same thing. All of a sudden they get bombarded with people asking for free stuff because of a precedence.

Never ask for free stuff, then you can't be disappointed.  ;)
And if you get free stuff anyway, be grateful!

Fair point Reuben,
I think we should be all grateful we still have discounts with brew shops after all the group buys on this forum.

In fairness THBC do give out the odd free bag of hops when they get something new in; usually advertised in this forum. I have benefited from this in the past.
