Title: 9D. Irish Red Ale
Post by: irish_goat on December 16, 2013, 10:11:13 AM
Thinking of brewing an Irish red next week and entering it in the competition. Just wondering though if I'm aiming for the right category? I'd like to replicate something like O'Hara's but from my reading of the BJCP guidelines this is not a true Irish red. Two lines in particular stand out.

QuoteHop aroma is low to none (usually not present). Generally no flavor hops, although some examples may have a light English hop flavor

O'Hara's Red, imo, has a light hop aroma and uses late Mt.Hood(US) hops which add a spicyness to the beer. Should I be maybe looking at other categories?
