Title: American College Football on TV?
Post by: Cory on December 21, 2013, 04:10:43 PM
Hey all-

I'm looking to see some American college football bowl games on New Year's Day- particularly the Iowa/Louisiana State Outback Bowl.  Does anyone know if any Dublin pubs show these games?  Are these games offered on Sky or other cable/satellite services here if they are on ESPN in the States?  I know Am. football isn't so big here, but I thought I'd ask the great members of this forum if they knew.

Happy and safe holidays, all!

Thanks folks.  I checked the listing you linked to and ESPN is playing a different game in that time slot.  There are just too many New Year's Day bowls these days.  Guess I'll have to settle for watching Wisconsin instead of Iowa, which, as every Irishman knows, is a bit of a letdown  :).

Thanks again.

Hi Cory,

Not sure about getting it on TV but last year i think there was an Am.Fottball game between Notre Dame and Navy
(Ok the link below reckons it was in '96 but I'm sure there was a big AmF game last year (or ealry this year)

IIRC: about three 747s were needed for the teams and their kit and caboodle!

Have a google and you will find the info!

But the biggy is next year:

One thing Irish and Welsh rugby need really badly are the girly cheer leaders! Can you lend us a few!

@everyone_else: Don't even bother slagging me about what a Welsh cheer leading girly group would look like!

The Dandelion on Steven's Green was always a big American Football bar - I believe they (used to?) sponsor the Dublin Rebels team so would be one to check

There are a couple of good streaming sites - I use coolsportz.tv

I'd also recommend the Rose Bowl this year - Go Green

Other sites are Frontrow or Frontrow Sports

Already got our tickets for the Penn State game at Croker next year.  I have some... streaming backup plans if I can't find it at the pub.  Guess I can't help ya on the cheerleaders, Welsh or otherwise  :)

Misterburns- I'll be cheering on Michigan State in the Rose Bowl as late as I can stay up that night. Depends on how much I celebrate/drown sorrows about the Iowa game just before it.

ND stomped on Navy at the Aviva to start their season last year.
Irony was that there was chatter that jet lag, blah, blah, blah would have a negative impact on their year, but they ran all the way to the championship game.

Woolshed on Parnell St, though an Aussie bar, is the premier spot in Dublin for watching US sports. They even built us Yanks our own room.
Some bowl games listed now, I presume the New Year's Day games will be updated after the weekend:
