Title: Capper Suggestions?
Post by: fishjam45 (Colin) on January 04, 2014, 11:26:03 PM
Evenin all,
I've been using this capper for a while but I'm finding it a little difficult to use and am sure there has to be one out there thats a lot easier to use.
This is my one - http://www.homebrewwest.ie/twin-lever-capper-black-338-p.asp (http://www.homebrewwest.ie/twin-lever-capper-black-338-p.asp)

Has anybody any recommendations?

I found that capper very easy to use, but it crapped out and died after about 40 brews.
Bench cappers are a bit easier though, like this one:

I bought one of THESE ONES (http://www.homebrewwest.ie/brewsmarter-quality-steel-twin-lever-capper-boxed-26-mm-caps-3124-p.asp) when the plastic capper broke.
It seems a lot stronger, but the caps catch a bit when releasing.
Although, after the fliptop buy, I'm not going to get a whole pile of use out of it for a while  ;)

Bench capper all the way. It works with Wichwood bottles which is a bonus

Bench capper. 7 years old capper still bangs em out and you can change the bell size.

Do you have to adjust for each type of 500ml bottle with a bench capper?

Yep, but it's very quick. Much more study that the twin handle.

Flip tops if it's for personal consumption, not to be wasted on friends.

Hey FJ don't sell yourself short! Its your birthday present to youself remember.!

Bench cappers are not that expensive but will you also need:

Lots of different coloured caps!

Champagne bottle capper bell and caps

Some even come with a wine bottle corker thing!

Bottle to cap

Crates to store them in

Jesus Will you're right!
I have already started on the many different coloured caps . . .
Dont think I'll be getting crates though as another thought has occured to me.  I'm thinking of doing a small renovation on my shed in the form of building wooden shelves to accomodate my brews . . . watch this space
