Ordered a bottle of Videne for which the shipping originally was £17.00stg but went down to £3.50stg using PM, even tacking on the 3.50 euro charge from PM itself that's still £9.00stg of a saving at least and the nearest pick up is just in the road ;D ;D ;D

On the other hand now that i have popped the Pm cherry my bank balance could be in trouble ;) ;) ;)

Your local co-op sells same stuff for milking parlours, use old clothes when working with that muck.
What happened to the starsan?

Not quite the same CH, the stuff for the milking parlours contains other ingredients as well, also they only sell it in 5 litre drums for like 50.00 euro, as oppsed to a 500ml bottle of Videne(10%w/w Iodine) for £8.30 sterling. I want to use it around the house as a general antiseptic as well so i can't have any other chemicals in it, surgical scrub stuff is what i needed so i went for the Videne for that reason.

The small bottle of Starsan is long gone, it was all but gone before i realised you could store it long term Doh! Anyway i reckon the Videne will serve well in that capacity as well as having other uses, cant get the bloody thing here. :D

How much was the Videne, Greg?

It's available from pharmacies in NI but doesn't seem to be here from what I can find.

£12.80 stg but that includes shipping to the Norn Iron Pm address for a 500ml bottle ;D

You cutting up bodies? Videne is heavy stuff and be very careful using that for brewing you can get it here, have you any friends that are GPs, pharmacists or vets?

No but i know a student nurse :P WRH don't even stock it anymore and trust me i asked, trust me i know what i am doing with this stuff  ;)
I believe a dilution of 2ml in 5 litres should do the trick as far as brewing anyway. :o

You can buy it as a trade account, talk me next time.
To repeat myself by all means around the house, that will kill everything, just be careful in the brewing gear and good rinse afterwards.

Ask her about it, one of my best buds is a drug dealer with a couple of pharmacies and I will be asking him as I am curious how nasty this stuff is, especially if Greg is going to drink it.

CH we use Hibiscrub and Betadene in the hospital(same stuff as Videne) however they do not buy in Betadene/ Videne any more for whatever reason just the Hibiscrub so its not like your arm is going to fall off using it with some common sense. Don't drink the stuff and you will be ok, hell you can scrub your hands and nails with undiluted Videne pre Op it will do you no harm whatsoever, as i said don't ingest any is all.

It will stain the fook out of anything its spilled on like clothes especially in neat undiluted form, also be careful not to get any in your eyes etc etc. The best thing about Videne is it can be used neat or diluted as a general household antiseptic, on yourself or on animals, its great for bathing the dogs feet or the chooks feet if they get a cut or infection, hell even your own feet. 8)

Sorry getting in late on the conversation, i bought videne in clifden Galway a couple of years ago in a chemist. No rinse dilution i think is 1.25ml to 1 litres as per my research on UK forums , never had any bother with it, bought a bottle of star san so use that now at the moment , can't fault either, still have loads of that 500ml bottle of videne left, contact time is minimal....

Hmm. I have been using a dilution of 1.5 ml per litre, spraying into bottles before filling, but not rinsing. As many of the Capital Brewers can tell you, I had phenolic/metallic off-flavours in three consecutive brews. So last few batches I've been rinsing bottles after Videne, with no apparent problems.
But I have Starsan on order.

Well i was a bit paranoid about the risk re chemical flavors as well so i would generally rinse off with some boiled water, so cant say i can testify its no rinse at that dilution but thats what they tell me, that method worked cant say i had any spoiled batches

I notice that Amazon now ship to an Ireland address for marginally less than the PM cost on some items.

If you spend over a certain amount and it's sold by amazon you get free shipping, I think it's something like 23 stg?

Yep, but they hack the price as is shipping overseas. That being said it's still marginally cheaper than PM.

My experience was that it was the same price and because what I was buying was over 30 yo yos and being sold by Amazon it was free?

Over €25 is free shipping (supplied or fulfilled by amazon only) PM is handy for the odd thing that is not covered in that or some of the affiliate stockists
