Title: 21 bootles of beer on the wall
Post by: Paddy on January 07, 2014, 08:23:45 PM
Hi guys

Just looking for viewpoints/hints/tips/experiences on how you keep yourselves supplied with bottles?

We used to just save up bottles as we drank and recycled them for brewing. But believe it or not we now brew faster than we can drink so we are struggled to stay supplied.

Ive had a few people contribute which has helped a lot but other than buying is there another way toget a steady stream of bottles coming in? Maybe pubs? Though I thought theysent those back to their respective breweries.

Make yourself more popular by giving away beer to lots of friends,  family and colleagues who don't brew.  This has a few advantages. You get honest feedback on the beer. If you do a less than prefect batch you can share it out with them :). It also allows you to claim with a straight face that you don't have a drink problem as you give a lot of what you brew away.  I find that it also has the benefit of these people giving you empties from their own beer drinking.  I have accumulated close to 100 bottles over that last year from this including approx 50 swing tops.

Thanks for sharing and getting back real quick.

We normally do 30L batches with the odd 60L brew.

There used to ne a brew every few months but at the current rate its more like three a month.

So you are talking about at least 180 bottles a month.

The pub and friends sounds like the way to go. I have a few buddies who keep their bottles for me.

But it looks like Ill have to ask a few more :-)

Cheers

The best solution, get a cornie keg setup, no need for bottles then :P

Lol

Would love a cornie setup Greg but have unfortunately put aside some dough for growing/packaging hops leaving me with little spare change  :(

But will hopefully finally get down that route in a few months  ;D
