Title: January meet up
Post by: Kevco5 on January 08, 2014, 10:56:36 AM
Our meet ups have been a bit last minute recently which hasn't been good for numbers IMHO and some meets have been skipped altogether!

Let's try lock in a date early enough and see will it help!

24th or the 31st of January, which suits best?

Part of the problem was letting it go to a vote! Pick one and go for it ;)
I don't think I'll make it this month

I propose keeping to the format of last Friday in the month. It makes everything easier to plan. I can't make it this month as our baby arrived yesterday!
I should get time off for good behaviour next month

Congrats Enda to you both. I'm sure you did all the hard work!

Never too soon to register a new member (he/she would be the youngest).

Also would qualify for the baby-grow discount to the under 2's.

Congrats :)

Started training up my 4 n'1/2 YO. Today

Ps. Apparently at one point I wasn't cleaning mash tun properly!
Don't know where he gets it from.
Must be his mother ::)

When we finished, marched inside and declares he's goin to the pub for a Homebrew!
I know where that comes from!

Congrats Enda roll on midnight mashes.
Kids are really useful in brewing for example small fingers for unblocking stuck sparges.
They are also cheap and love watching yeast fart :)

Thanks guys! I better get cracking on my automated brewery. I hear the bubbling from a fermenter is very soothing for the baby - at least that's what I'm telling my wife :p

31st, last Friday of the month, most notice for a bigger crowd hopefully!

I'd be in favour of the 31st just from the point of view of getting it back to the regular last Friday of the month slot.
It makes it much easier to plan ahead and know that, for example, the April meet will be on the 25th and I can claim it in advance with Bord Pleanala.. :)

Edit: yes what Kev said too....!  as the 24th is just 2 days away now!....  The last Friday of the month norm can be broken for Dublin events / Christmas's etc....

Sorted so are we agreed as well from last meet limiting people to 2 bottles?

Probably enough booze to be bringing to a pub, I've got 3 available but will hold one back for the next meet... I can't see myself brewing for a little while now, need to get some drinking done!

Maybe write your name & list what you are bringing. Limit it to two but if people arent bringing anything (which happens a lot) then maybe others can bring an extra one or whatever?

Haha ! Bushing! been a long time since i done that there! I sampled a bottle of RIS during the week - well carbed dont know if thats to style or not , think its mellowing a bit but alot of whiskey flavours there.

Too much whiskey in there I think. Those barrels were so wet. The barrel that Kev has for us now will make a totally different RIS (if the Galbay barrel RIS is anything to go by - (same barrels) Not a lot of whiskey in there which should make for a more drinkable, balanced beer (as drinkable & balanced as a 10+ abv beer can be)

I don't think I'll make this one but using bjcp tasting sheets could be fun if  someone can print them out. ..

Thanks CH!... Always great to see you! ..... (and the stuff you bring with u!!) :-[
On another note, if anyone's planning to do what I normally do tonight which is drive to the Oslo and abandon the car overnight, then don't!... big winds expected tonight and high tide at 6am..... ie park on high ground and away from the prom!
Title: Re: January meet up
Post by: barkar on January 31, 2014, 09:50:48 AM
Balls that was exactly what i was going to do , was going to park at the one on the prom , maybe not now , staying in town- so might look into a b+b in Salthill on high ground !

Story re RIS , looks like  Mike is bring an oxidised bottle , anyone bring in a force carbed bottle , i can if necessary . Tom , can you hold onto the oxy kit dont want to be carrying it around if thats ok

My RIS's are forced carbed, not all that well though... will bring a bottle.
I'll PM you where I'm staying, it's 15mins walk from Oslo, and 5 from Salthouse. E35...

Hope ye're having a good night lads and aren't being blown away! Here's a pic of mine a couple of minutes after pouring (and having a bit). Storing it in a warm place hasn't done it much good. I'm happy with the level of whiskey in it though.

Sorry didn't make it last night lads, what was the verdict on the RIS? How was the turn out?
