There is a bit of a drought in the Summer competition wise and particularly outside Dublin.
What say ye to a competition in Cork?
The floor is open...
I second that motion!
Though FYI Beer Ireland has provisionally planned a comp for the Easter beer fest at the Well, so stay away from that weekend >:( go on, git!
Good idea. But I'll need some time to get a few brews on!
Did you want to do a summer seasonal thing or something more general.
Please post details of the Easter comp, thanks!
Pubs close Good Friday Apr 18th
Easter Sunday falls on April 20.
Comp on the Saturday?
I want to see if the Rebel Brewers can do one.
I think keep it open to anyone.
Model it on Liffey Brewers, limiting the number of entries.
Do we have bodies who would be willing to Judge and steward?
Do we pencil in a date?
Say June 7th? Is there anything on? (If there are sports events I'm never going to know.)
Lets get some opinions.
What about having it coincide with the Homebrew Expo?
When is this on?
I can see no reason why not once the Lee Valley don't object.
That being said, it might be better to separate the two events so that neither event is short of bodies.
Bump
i like the idea. and would try to brew something to enter but i said that last year and this year for the national comp and didn't won't manage either.
All you have to do is not drink a couple of bottles from your last brew.
Kit, extract, all grain, it doesn't matter. It's a bit of fun and gets you some useful feedback too.

Lee Valley have been talking about a competition for many years now, so would be ideal opportunity for the two clubs to do something together, as long as they are ok with doing a joint event with the Rebels.
Absolutely.
In case he's not spotted it, I'll shoot Brian the link to this thread to see what he thinks.
Then let be a Lee Valley comp - as the Cork judge in training I'm sure there'll be a role for johnrm - and I assume they won't mind us all entering the comp either?
It doesn't matter what banner is flying, I'll change the OP.
I've PM'd Brian to meet up and have a chat.
I discussed this with Lee Valley and with brewery moves etc. a co-op effort can't happen until November.
The idea was to have a small comp akin to the Liffey Brewers, with, say, 50 entrants. Which would only occupy 8 judges for one session.
I'll check with Delzep to see how his worked out logistically and make a call in the next few weeks.
Was thinking about this, I think its a great idea. Would it be an idea to have a competition based solely on a single style?
My suggestion would be a "Double IPA Fest" >:D
There was a mention of single-style competition in another thread.
Totally out of season but I was aiming to do an all Stout summer competition.
This could be expanded to accomodate any Black Beers, so
Schwarzbier
Black Lager
Black IPA (Other than colour, categorised as IPA)
I call it Monochrome
I spoke to the Lee Valley lads, but a competition only suits much later in the year.
I think we should go ahead with this as there is interest and I prefer not to hang about.
*Closes eyes, points at calendar*
Jul 19th?
Any objections or further input? (Or sporting events that clash, I never know about these things)
Won't know till championship!
That sounds like a plan, sure we can talk about it at the brew comp.
How dark is black?
Hurray for Sinnamar!
So, any beer we want so long as it's black - you're not related to Henry Ford by any chance? I always had him down as West Cork, not east.
Checked out the sports situation, should be relatively quiet, the World Cup, Munster Hurling Final (and Connacht football) are all the previous weekend, so everything is taking a bit of a breather after all that. There's a couple of football qualifiers on the Saturday but they're not exactly showstoppers.
Been thinking about brewing a stout for a while, so no excuses now!
Well if you are including Black IPA's I am more than likely in.
Hey lads any update on this idea?
This fell by the wayside for a number of reasons.
House hunting with move shortly, work and other important beer stuff!
I will start a fresh thread.
Thanks for the bump!
Definitely need more competitions in Cork
