Title: Anyone else tried their cider yet?
Post by: Eoin on January 13, 2014, 10:25:35 AM
I pasteurised and sweetened half at the weekend and put it in a vinotainer. The other half I left dry and bottled. I had a few pints along with it.... My head was sore yesterday.

Well your head would be sore if you keep banging it off the fridge door when you try to drink the cider :P

I used the recommended amount of Campden. I can't remember what that dosing rate was, but I think it was 10 tablets to the container.

Hah I love that so you wake up with a headache from drinking too much and you blame the campden tablets ;D

Is it crystal clear?

I had two types, one with pectolase added and one without, they were both almost as clear as each other at this point. It appears the pectolase strips a lot of flavour and I would not use it again if I were making cider with local juice as it was impossible to tell them apart clarity wise but there was a much better flavour from the non-treated portion.

They were crystal clear. That said what I was drinking, due to transfers etc was possibly not the clearest, but it wasn't murky either.

Leave it 12 months in a bottle and you will get some flavour profile back.

I'd already worked that one out for next year as I was laying this lot down.
