Should we have a blind tasting to pick the best example of the barrel beer for the comp? Some have bottle conditioned, others kegged. It'd be interesting to see which tastes the best on a blind tasting. That example would be the beer we put forward to represent Galway Homebrew Club in the barrel competition.
Sounds good when , next meet ?
Mine won't be ready! Haven't tasted in a couple of weeks now, but I'll bet it's still not carbed fully!
I'm in the same boat as Kev, not much carbonation yet. Maybe enter it next year!
Why wait til next year?
Would the difference be substantial , i would think with bottle carbed that if anything there would be more sediment and a slight bit sweeter , considering the few bottles i drank so far i reckon our beer is on the sweeter side anyway
Enter it both years! If its better next year so be it.
If we bring a bottle each to the next meet we can compare them, get some feed back too from those that weren't involved.... we might be emotionally attached :) .
Has a date been set for the barrel comp? I haven't been keeping up to date with all the forum threads

I'll open one next time I'm down home, but it being very flat could dominate any judges opinion of the beer. Barkar- there wasn't even any sediment the last time I tried one
As far as I know, Closing date is the 16th for all competition entries, with categories 1-19 being judged in Dublin in the 1st of March, judging for the barrel brew will be in cork on the 22nd of March along with the speciality categories.
I'm open to correction on that though!
Absolutely correct, the style numbers may be swapped a bit between Cork and Dublin but thats it.
So when is the drop off deadline for Galway , the 16?
Correct
Mine was oxidised to feck, I ruined it like a fool but Ill bring one to the meet anyway even just to see the difference (mine was poured from a corny into bottles - shoulda used Tom's counterpressure filler that he offered me). What date is the meet so? Should prob make a decision on that front.
Regardless of which brewers bottles get entered, I propose we name it
"Róisín Imperial Stout"
In honour of our club founders legacy!
Congrats Enda and Emer!
I see what you did there... very good, took a minute for the penny to drop. :)
Haha, Sounds good :) Roisin Dubh??
Nope guess again!
Russian - Róisín I must be sleep deprived; it took a couple of hours before I got it!
