Chaps we never steal kegs or posts pictures of identifiable kegs on this forum as that is against the law and illegal and it will be just a matter of time before individuals like this one come to court  ::)

I am reliably informed that as from this year both of our major (well Ok our only 2) macros are instigating a counting system for emptys :(

So beware!

If the numbers don't add up (some time?) then its a €40 a pop for the negatives numbers ???

I'd say very few get lost, bit too big and bulky for that.

They've always done that, not sure how strict they ever are with actually charging/taking the deposit off pubs but they've always kept a count on kegs, crates and returnable pint bottles.

Local off licence here in Celbridge told me that I should keep an eye out for when they are leaving rubbish out for collection as he often leaves out plastic crates because the people who are supposed to collect them don't bother. :o

We had to threaten to do that in the B&C a few times because some breweries just never bothered to pick up their empties. They'd either always use couriers to deliver (who don't collect the empties) or anytime they delivered using a van they'd give us the old "we'll be back for those later" line. Phoned them up and said "your kegs are gonna be out, if you don't lift them, someone else will".

Pallets on the other hand were never counted so anytime a macro sent one I always made sure a micro went home with it.  :P

Local brewer friend of mine said that keg theft by *macros* was a huge issue.

If the keg count came up short, the rep would collect empty micros kegs instead.

I'd be surprised if that was the case tbh. The delivery lads aren't involved in the actual accounts, they just drop off how many full kegs are ordered and pick up whatever is left out. Say you leave out 5 empty kegs for them, they have no idea if your account is clear or if you "owe" 100 empties. Aside from that a lot of the micros use different kegs compared to the macros.

the micro kegs and casks I have seen have plaques and belt and brace identifiers on them and i suppose at close to 100 for a new one I would be that bloody protective as well.
Its about time we had here like they have in the UK, Kegwatch and a legitimate way for homebrewers to actually buy them, even new and shiny, I'm sure there is a market.

One brewery in the UK makes sure no one ever mistakes their casks for anyone elses.  ;D

The grman supplier of the last corny keg GB lists SS kegs for sale!

IIRC: A 30 L keg is abount the same price as a corny (but it needs a spear as well)

Of course we should be able to buy new unbranded (or stamped Property of the NHC) SS kegs with or without spears.

Its just that no-one has actually thought to progress this.

Also some HBers are so tight (makes a Duck's Ar*e look like the Port Tunnel) with the cash they ain't going to splash money on legit kegs!
