Option 4: 7th March

Hi! Due to the lack of availability at the Hudson it might be best to push the meet back until February. I have already checked with the Hudson for availability so what suits everyone?
As much as it would be the ideal Valentines night...I don't think that can really be in the running!

My missus says there's nothing more romantic than seeing me f**k off to a homebrewing club meet on Valentine's night.
But maybe we're just old-fashioned.

My first three wives used to say that as well.
Freak her out and get her flowers on the 7th.
Barry that might be why your marriage is so successful lol, the end of the month would suit us better
I'm with CH, the 7th will reap better rewards.
Hah.
My argument for not buying flowers on Valentine's day is 'there's something wrong if I need some stupid made up date to jolt me into showing my appreciation of you'.
Her counter-argument is 'but you don't buy me flowers any other day of the year'.
[swap 'wife' for 'mother' and 'Valentine's Day' for 'Mother's Day'] Same scenario.

21st for me (I think).
Right that's us booked for the 21st!
And if everyone's happy, as per Barry and Paddy's suggestion, we will run with doing a meet every 3rd Friday/Saturday in the month?
Think that's probably the best idea, taking into account National Holidays or whatever
Pretty much flat out every weekend this month :( so no preference.
However when a date is decided I will see if I can fit it in.
I don't mind Valentines day either :)
Hi Paddy,
21st has already been confirmed. Hope you can make it down.
Cheers,
-Barry
Time and location?
Venue: Hudson. (Heel Bar, I take it, Chris?)
Time: 7:30 for 8 suit everyone?

w00t!!
Hey
Don't know how I missed that previous post confirming the 21st. Maybe it was alcohol blindness? the fusals are at it again!
Properly frustrated as we have booked a cottage up the coast that Friday afternoon!!! Sorry guys.
Could probably leave a few beers for tasting though if anyone is interested.
What's the agenda for the evening.....is there a brew on the stove?
How's about this for a preliminary agenda:
1. Happy New year and happy Valentine's greetings all round / Intro to any new members
2. Homebrew samples & House beer (as much as possible of both)
3. Agree on a date/venue/theme for March meet (brew build/equipment build, etc - this will determine if next meet is a Friday or a Saturday).
4. Ditto for April (and May?)
5. Any specific topic you would like help with or would like to share with the group? (post your thoughts or ideas and we'll cover as many as we can at the meet)
6. AOB e.g. anything we could do different regarding club/meets, etc
7. Ahh ff--fff---fug yish-all I'm geddin' a-naaerr fuggginn beeuurrrr yis fuggin b-b-basshhurss...
All suggestions welcomed.
Cheers,
-Barry
P.s. Do we want to take a head count at this stage?

Thanks Paddy - might be better if you save them for whenever you can make it? What've you got on at the minute?
Haha - sounds good Bazza! We'll definitely be down for this.
At what point do we retreat outside to smash the bottles on the road?
Will you guys be doing an all grain brew?

The Friday meets are just to sample homebrews - any brew demos are usually on a Saturday.
Hi Chaps,
I have some samples from the last brewday that I will bring along, they should quite good. I also have a hefe weizen to bring although I am not sure if it is true to form as the HBC mixed up the order and got a hefe instead of an american ale - but hey ho it still goes down well.
Also have a Centenial own repipe ready for March/April.
Cheers
Andy

Fair enough. They'll probably be better by then anyway :) Actually got a bit going at the minute.
Got that Porter you helped me out with (didn't turn out too bad), a few messed up Saisons (if anyone wants to see how NOT to make a Saison haha - warning causes extreme hangover), Winter ale, Citra APA smash, Centennial/Cascade APA, Czech Pilsner in the fermentor at 4 weeks, 60L Galaxy APA going on tomorrow (hopefully it wont rain!!!) and an oatmeal stout in two weeks.
Also did an experiment where I brewed 9 ales in one day all hopped differently (tried keeping every other variable as constant as possible). They are about ready to drink. I could put a few up for tasting if anyone wants to do hop comparisons, a bit of identifying varieties in March/April, or something like that, etc.... Just a thought ;D
Shit. You've just reminded me. I've still to try that porter of yours.
Andy man. Good to see you back on and brewing like a goodun. Next Friday should be a decent wee night.

Sounds really interesting - I love that sort or thing! How did you vary it? Different hops or different schedule?
Nice one Andy - Iain and I just attempted a hefeweizen for the nationals so will maybe bring some too!
Defos Bazza! It's been too long.
Haven't tried the Porter myself since before I gave you that one Bazza but at the time I wasn't too happy. I split the brew with a mate of mine, I fermented with 04 and he used Nott. Mine turned out unflavoured so I thought we made a mistake during the Mash or something but his turned out amazing! Hopefully mine has improved in the past few weeks - we shall see.
We fermented with the same schedule Chris, just different hops. Excuse my forum etiquette ignorance but you can see a full post with pics on it here: http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=48413
Stevie and I had a go at them over the weekend but only half of them turned out descent enough for notes which was a bummer. Will have to try the expirement again with bigger batches as it was difficult to measure for small 2L brews!
HI Paddy,
You've just reminded me. Had a few drinks on Sunday night, and among them was your porter. Probably a bit early, but I couldn't resist leaving it any longer. Anyway, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. That was very smooth, flavoursome and a nice balance of the malts and hops i.e. nice body without being too heavy. Another couple of weeks and she should be a classic. Nice one!
-Barry
Hey man!
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the time has been good to that batch, hopefully it will continue to be so. I will try one tonight.
Hi all,
As if you need reminding, this is a wee bump for tonight's Belfast club meet in the Hudson Heel Bar at 8pm.
Bring a sample (of the non-medical kind), bring a friend and most importantly bring a thirst for both beer and knowledge (Christ, that's deep).
Here's our provisional agenda again.
1. Homebrew samples & House beer (as much as possible of both)
2. Agree on a date/venue/theme for March meet (brew build/equipment build, etc - this will determine if next meet is a Friday or a Saturday).
3. Ditto for April (and May?)

Though, in true Hollywood style, we'll probably throw that out the window proclaiming 'I don't need this' and speak from the heart in scenes the likes of which have not been seen since 'Babe 2: Pig in the City'
See you all there.
-Barry
Sounds good.
Thoughts or topics - I remember a Saison competition being mentioned, would be good to see if people are up for running something like this?
The other thing is the possibility of running a homebrew festival similar to the one in the Bernard Shaw (http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,3815.msg46903.html#msg46903) last October. Would be good to look into something like this up here?
If anyone's coming down - we've moved to the top floor in the Hudson!
Very quiet on here tonight? You guys still out partying?
So did you put the world to right?
Afraid the Giants' lifting the trophy took precedence...sorry guys!
So how'd it go? Was there a descent turn out?
Aye, was pretty good. Some great beers were enjoyed in the plush setting of the Hudson's whisky lounge upstairs. With the comfortable leather sofas we'd have been mistaken for gentry if it hadn't been for all the shite talk and bad language.
Numbers-wise? Well, if they'd provided a pool table we'd have comfortably played doubles most of the night.
We forgot about the whole agenda thing too so I guess, going forward, item one of the agenda should be to remember we have an agenda.
Good to catch up though.
-Barry
Yeah was a great night - much more relaxed on the sofas! Hopefully we can use it again!
